Besides Renmark, which is obviously the coldest place in the world relative to latitude by a wide margin, where else are such places? Locations must be at a reasonable elevation as well and not affected by obvious cold ocean currents (like Lima or Walvis Bay). My favorite would be Changsha at 63m asl @ 28N. Summers are typical for the latitude and elevation, but not the winters!  |

Another is Xanxerê, Brazil at 26.9N and 800m. Averages aren't that notable but the year-round record lows are pretty impressive, especially with the high precip.  |

I would count ocean currents personally. What's not to hate about Cape Lopatka? It's a cold, gloomy weather station next to the sea. Maybe partially in the sea since the diurnal ranges and temperature extremes are so small. 50.9 north, sea level, and borderline tundra with a record high below 20C. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Lopatka

Nanning, China is in the tropics just below 23N. Not as cold as Changsha, but January is far from tropical with a gloomy 17/10 average. Summer is hot and wet.  |

Kinda new here too but this is what I think it's about: Beercules is always complaining about south-eastern Australia being prone to cold fronts from Antarctica, even during summer. He's originally from Melbourne (or Failbourne as it's commonly known) and hates its climate with a passion. Now he lives in Renmark but is still often disappointed that polar outbreaks can reach there. Hence the inside joke about SE Australia being the coldest place in the world for the latitude. |

It's the 3rd 'La Nina' year in a row....so below average temps and above average rainfall is a given in s e AU during these types of weather patterns. Renmark, taking in both max and min temps in reality varies little year to year.... |

Schefferville of East Canada has -5.3C annual temperature on latitude 54.8N! With bit of elevation. Maybe it is the coldest for 50s latitudes.  |
