nei thank you for these plots. Hartford definitely has a big cold rain peak, wonder why? Moisture from the ocean maybe? For Madison the most common temperature is just above freezing, and it does seem to be the most common temperature to get "stuck" if there are a few days in a row around the same temperature. Raleigh might have the largest jump between below and above freezing, up there with Hartford. Madison has the same pattern but not as drastic. here's Portland, Maine. even more of a cold rain peak than Hartford. Surprised how skewed Madison is; Missoula Montana isn't all that different East of the Rockies on the Great Plains; it's much more variable another lake effect station; Syracuse; similar to Madison but much wetter and a bit milder

I would say on the cooler side here. Even during a hot summer day the temperature will drop a fair bit when a storm rolls through. That said, that rain can very well be sandwiched between fairly warm temperatures so it's alright, very different from places like Vancouver where a rainy day will rarely feature hot temperatures (at least in my personal experience).
