Deniliquin, NSW ~ Aussie Hot-Spot of 1878Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre—in the heart of South-Western NSW, in the town of Deniliquin, within the Riverina regional—was established in 1858 and is still active today in 2022 (now at the airport); thereby yielding one of the longest climate referrence periods of any town in Australia, plainly showing a downwards trend in terms of temperature and still publicly available on the Bureau of Meteorology's website. The highest temperature of 49.6° C (121.3° F) was reached on the 12th of January, 1878, and is likewise amongst the highest readings ever recorded not only in NSW, but also in the entirety of Australia. By comparison, the "potent" January of 2019 had merely registered 47.2° C at Deniliquin—2.4° C less than in January 1878, with mean maxima an entire 1.0° C lower at 37.8° C, as opposed to 38.8° C in 1878. I award Deniliquin in 1878 with B–; too hot during the height of summer, with winters being too mild—albeit with possible sleet showers straddling June–July. Tremendously stormy from February to March, following a hot and dry January, which appears to be its chief advantage.

What devilry is this? It had never reached 40C there until the 1980s?! Anyway, I will give this a C- rating as it is much too dry. If this data is true, which I highly doubt, the BOM will have moved the temperature sensors into a better location to better retain the heat in the 1980s.
