Let's rate Korea! (both North and South)
For me, while the peninsula is mostly too continental for my preference, I still can appreciate other aspects of its climate, including its crisp autumns and good winter sunshine compared to other temperate zone locales (especially if winters are harsher, I would prefer additional sunshine). Korea also tends to be lusher than nearby Northern China during the transition seasons, but it still has less winter precipitation than optimal for the most part, unlike Japan (but to its credit, it is sunnier as well),. For its degree of continentality, Seoul's records are actually fairly mild, milder actually than many oceanic climates located away from the coast... heat waves and severe weather seem like less of an issue than in the US continental climates. For me, not counting Ulleungdo which has more winter precipitation and moderation, Sokcho seems like a decent option, although summers are still somewhat too wet, gloomy, and muggy, and winters are still a bit too dry and cold-- a solid B though overall. The worst climates are probably those in northern North Korea like Hyesan with severe winters, although summers are pleasant there-- Korea's warmer places like Jeju remain pleasant outside of the summer/Sept. Overall, I believe the region deserves a C/C- climatically, avoiding a lower score due to these positive characteristics aforementioned. Cadeau thoughts from someone who has resided in Seoul?

Korea Verdict: A+
Perfect range of winter temperatures and summer temperatures throughout the peninsula. Summers have a nice precipitation peak, book-ended by several months of moderate precipitations. Winters are dry overall but still sufficiently snowy.
Sunshine hours are A+ grade.

Grade C- for South Korea / Grade D for North Korea. Don't know what to say about the Korean climate since I lived there until 10 and my memories are limited to a few events (Typhoon & Blizzard). Guess I cared not much about the weather and accept what it offered.
Cadeau: "Proper" summer doesn't start until jangma season finish then you see what's a real heat and humidity combination tij: is that only july and august? Cadeau: Jangma starts sometimes in late-June and usually in a full mode by early-July tij: just rain rain rain? is it muggy? Cadeau: Combination... Cadeau: But recent year had quite dry because high pressure dominated entire of month Cadeau: after typhoon gone Cadeau: Sometimes torrential rain lasts only 5~10 mins then sunny weather comes and alternating... Cadeau: Just think about Florida but more disctinctive. Candle: Sounds wonderful Cadeau. Korea's wet season gets a bad reputation. And all of northeast Asia for that matter tij: eek-- not the greatest
I'm lazy to type passive to describe so rather instantly discussed on the Shoutbox.

C+. Not great but overall decent. Seoul is a C+ with a decent climate but is too cold in winter and too wet in July and August. Seoul metro has about 1/2 the population of South Korea and about 1/3 the population of both Koreas combined. Some better areas in South Korea like Busan and lowland Jeju Island probably balance out some worse areas in North Korea, so all in all it's still a C+.
