Would this make Umeå a lot more tolerable Babu ? I've copied Uppsala from April to October, Umeå från December to February and made transitional averages for March and November to end up just below freezing for winter street cred, while at the same time warming up a lot faster. This climate would also have Uppsala's winter snow pattern with a high snowfall percentage and not so much winter rain, hence probably a higher snow yield than Umeå. For those not familiar, Uppsala is arguably having the warmest July days in Northern Europe, if Russia is not included.
My rating is somewhere in between C- and D+, leaning towards the latter, mainly since June and August are a bit of letdowns and winter is still quite cold.

Obviously better than Umeå. Not better than normal Uppsala.

D- (equivalent to E for most other folks). Much too cold year-round (especially winter). Winter is too cloudy and too snowy as well.

B++, not quite an A. Not enough snow, winter could be a tad longer, but beautiful the rest of the year.

A-, better than either climate on its own. Add 1-2 degrees to May through September, remove a few in winter, add a bit more summer rain, and it's basically my ideal climate but with a high latitude sun pattern.
The snow ratios are lower than I expected for Umeå. How common is winter rain? It looks like Umeå gets 10-15mm of rain in December and 5-10 in January and February.

Babu says winter rain is rather common for its low temperatures, my theory is that it's about the proximity to the North Atlantic relative to here, where usually low-pressure systems are rather weakened in January and February and thus not bringing much rain when temperatures are above freezing. It does happen, but the general feeling is that snow totals here overperform the 1/-4 typical weather.

Lommaren Winter rain is common in Milwaukee with similar average temperatures of -2/-9. In my case, it's because cold fronts are usually dry air from Canada and warm fronts are warm humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. Further west in the plains winter rain is rare, and further east winter rain is even more common. These climates all around 42-43N, going from west to east the winter precip increases much faster than winter snow totals. The numbers are winter precip (mm) and snow (cm) Valentine 28mm 37cm 42.9N 100.6W Sioux Falls 47mm 59cm 43.6N 96.7W Albert Lea 60mm n/a 43.6N 93.4W Milwaukee 139mm 89cm 43.1N 88.0W Detroit 163mm 82cm 42.3N 83.0W London and Buffalo see lake effect snow, which changes the trend in these areas.
