Severe thunderstorm over the area right now, with possible tornadoes (F1 and F2 variety). What’s the average number of tornadoes per year? You seem to mention them every few days so is that normal or is this an above average tornado season?

You seem to mention them every few days so is that normal or is this an above average tornado season? It's an above average season, storms tend to be quite severe so tornadoes aren't rare but not overly common either. 99% of the time it's of the F1 variety, but stronger ones have hit the southern suburbs, most notably the F5 tornado that struck Peachtown in mid-May 1970. For this particular storm, tornadoes might be a possibility as conditions are favorable, but no tornado touchdowns have been reported as of yet.

1:12 PM Temp: 83 F (28.3 C) Conditions: Mostly cloudy and breezy with building thunderstorms Wind: SE at 15 mph G 41 mph Dew Point: 72 F (22 C) Heat Index: 88 F (31 C) Rainfall to date: 19.2" / 487.7mm Yesterday's high/low: 86F/72F (30C/22C) Storms dropped ~300mm / 12" of rain between 4pm-9pm, providing the biggest 24hr rainfall so far this year. 9:30 AM Temp: 90 F (32.2 C) Conditions: Clear and breezy, chance of strong storms later in afternoon Wind: SE at 22 mph / 35 kmh , gusts at 37 mph / 60 kmh Dew Point: 77 F (25 C) Heat Index: 103 F (39.4 C) Rainfall to date: 31.2" / 792.5mm It's a hot and humid morning with the sun shining but at least there is a "cooling" seabreeze from the ocean which now has SSTs around 27C/81F. Today looks to have another round of big rain-producing storms. Yesterday's high/low: 91F/77F (33C/25C) Storms dropped ~100mm / 4" of rain between 12pm to 8pm in various thunderstorms. Not the big thunderstorm day as expected. 1:55 PM Temp: 84 F (28.9 C) Conditions: Mostly cloudy Wind: Calm Dew Point: 77 F (25 C) Heat Index: 94 F (34 C) Rainfall to date: 35.2" / 892.5mm Nice day today.

^ Any thunderstorms today?
8:40 PM
Temp: 78 F (26 C)
Conditions: Mostly Cloudy and Breezy
Wind: E at 18 mph G 26 mph
Dew Point: 69 F (21 C)
Rainfall to date: 69.23" (1759 mm)
A pleasant evening after some extremely strong thunderstorms that passed through the area between 3-6 pm. 6.22" (153 mm) fell and a 104 mph (167 kmh) wind gust was reported during a very strong squall.
Thunderstorm outflows have lowered dew points and will cause the temp to drop below the predicted low of 77 F (25 C), likely to the 71-73 F (22-23 C) range.
Luckily, a dry period is forecast for Winter Haven next week, which will help dry things out.
