It's the battle of the two "one night in..." places, "One Night in Bangkok" being a 1985 classic song by Murray Head, and "One Night in Motueka" being courtesy of our very own Beercules. Bangkok: Motueka: Bangkok has a tropical savanna (Aw) climate, while Motueka is temperate oceanic (Cfb). Bangkok is known for being warm to hot and humid year-round; Motueka has more seasonal variation in temperature but less in precipitation, with cool winters and mild summers. Interesting that Motueka has more wet days according to the table provided, while Bangkok has both more precipitation and more sunshine. My vote goes to Bangkok, though admittedly the heat and humidity would probably be a bit intense; April and May look like ultimate steambath months. Bangkok has 12 months per year that meet my criteria for acceptable summer weather, while Motueka has zero and is cloudier to boot. According to joe90, the warmest day in the average year in Motueka gets to about 29-30'C; for me that's a fail.

Bangkok for having summery weather, even with the lack of seasonality.

Interesting that Motueka has more wet days according to the table provided, while Bangkok has both more precipitation and more sunshine. Umm, excuse me? Even with that table, Motueka has far fewer precip days than Bangkok relative to total precip. Bangkok only has fewer precip days during its dry season, which plainly doesn't get much total rain at all.

101 rain days for Motueka at >1mm Sunshine approx 2500 hours Those aren’t the stats I see... Motueka is much better, not a hot, humid shithole.

Those aren’t the stats I see... The rainy days and sunshine stata on the OP are not actually from Riwaka EWS, but from Nelson. I still await Joe to give me the source code for to construct a complete, accurate table for Motueka (as I have little idea regarding the proper use of cliflo.nz).

Sunshine was for Motueka in the 1961-1990 period, but represent uncorrected obstruction from tree growth. Unfortunately, it only shows annual sunshine hrs. Are you able to locate monthly stats as well? Also, if you can find any temp records, post those too.

Bang Cock. Although I'd prefer a cool season, all the excitement that comes with the tropics - storms, torrential downpours, epic cloudscapes, heat, are critical to my quality of life. Motueka by comparison is an extremely boring and sub-mild excuse of a climate.

Annual figures can actually be quite useful especially for comparison purposes, as outlier months can be evened out by other months in the other direction; to me knowing at a glance how much precipitation a place gets in a year, for example, is more important than knowing in particular how much it gets in, say, March. Yes, annual figures can be misleading, but they're pretty darn objective at a glance.
