Sorry if a similar thread exists but I couldn't find one.
So this thread's about the small, irritating things about your climate rather than the major obvious ones (like Northern England having no summer etc...).
Things that are just irritating:
- In winter it's either cold and partly cloudy/sunny or mild and raining/drizzling/windy. Rarely ever get sunny and mild (though there are exceptions like February 2019).
- Most of the rain takes way too long to fall in the way of drizzly crap or persistent frontal tosh that last hours and ruins entire days
- There is this reaaaaallllly annoying pattern in summer where the sun is out in the morning with the temp going steadily upwards, until about 12:00-13:00, but then a layer of stratocumulus covers the sky all afternoon, and having reached 19°C then temperature immediately drops to something lame like 17°C for the entire afternoon, before the cloud breaks up at about 7PM when it' far too late.
 I'd say this shit happens on about 40% of summer days easily.
- Thunderstorms constantly dissipate as they reach the area, lightning instantly stops as it gets within 1-2 miles, and then after 1-2 miles after passing, it rejuvinates back into a thunderstorm.
- No CG lightning/loud thunder in storms. Seriously I hardly ever see it, and most thunder here is so quiet you wouldn't even notice it unless you were outside anyway, and even a car driving past is loud enough to drown it out.
I'm sure there's more if I think about it.

- Days like yesterday when it's cloudy during the daylight hours but then clears up after the sun sets, allowing the temperatures to go into free-fall mode. - Most of the rain here as well tends to fall in the form of slow drizzle. Heavy rainfall rates don't happen often outside of the summer months, and even so there can be plenty of drizzle in summer. This past fall we were at least lucky enough to have Leah and Mike on October 22-23 and November 10 respectively that packed a punch. - When we get good storms...but they're entirely in the middle of the night so I sleep through them and don't get to enjoy the experience. - When we fall short of forecast high temperatures by 5'F or more. I've seen days in the 80s turn into 60s/low 70s. - Fizzers. Storms that weaken substantially or break up altogether as soon as they approach my city. - Unforecasted sun when we've been extremely dry lately and it was supposed to be a needed gloomy day, or unforecasted cloud/drizzle otherwise. - Seeing it be warmer in Saskatoon ( Morningrise) than here in winter. - Seeing it be warmer in Northern England ( St. Middleway) than here in summer. - Years when June is a good month in terms of rain totals and storm events, but then July and August are very dry and pathetic. - Days that start out with stratus and drizzle but then only decide to clear up in the mid-afternoon after your eyes and mind have already accepted that it's a gloomy/cloudy day (which we need sometimes and I actually tend to like). Bonus points if everyone else is all like "at least the sun came out!" and is then hardcore squinting after having forgotten their sunglasses. Edited to add: when we get stuck in a particular weather pattern for weeks on end and the weather may as well have been copied and pasted from day to day to day. 31/23 Fahrenheit and overcast, give or take a couple of degrees, every day for a week. That was just last week. |

Lol, I'll have an easier time making a list of things I enjoy about this climate  practically everything about this climate pisses me off. But I'll start with these: - During winter cold snaps, they often get completely fucked by unexpected NE winds that set up during the night during the peak of the cold snap. We'll have a night that for sure looks like it'll drop into the 30s, it'll be say 42-43 F by 10 pm, only for the temp to go up to 50 F by midnight because of these dastardly winds.  - Cold fronts that get anally raped the second they cross Central FL into South FL. Seeing Orlando 20-25 F colder than here causes an anger in me that I don't even want to talk about. - We gets lots of thunderstorms here, but it's more sheer quantity than quality. I'd like it better if we got less storms but stronger ones. Most of the good ones develop inland and then fizzle out when they reach here. - Super hot days that cap out at 11 am or noon happen here a lot too. It's annoying when the potential to reach 100 F is there but we top out at like 97 F at 11 am because of some unexpected sea breeze or some other lame shit. - The "anti-interesting weather shield" that South FL seems to have. Seriously not making this up, nearly all cold snaps and storms are much lamer here than in other parts of FL. - Most of the time, it seems to get warmer than predicted during winter cold snaps. Predicted high of 60 F but it's already 62 F at 11 am it's annoying. A lot of days with potential highs in the 50s get ruined by this dumb shit. - How summer drags and drags and drags. I mean that's expected at my latitude and elevation, but Jesus fuck is it annoying. Early November aside from the weaker sun angle can feel like straight up summer still. "Fall" here is literally just the month of November basically. - Random years like 2015 where wet season takes a while to get started. I have many, many more. But my brain is essentially a fried egg in a pan at the moment, so I'm drawing a blank. |

alex992 I totally agree about the days that could have been much hotter if the wind hadn't changed at 11 am, or the winter nights that could have been much colder if the wind hadn't changed at 9 pm. "Anti-interesting weather shield" - that's only funny because of how relatable it is, the same thing always seems to happen here. The storms all seem to die in the ass as soon as they get east of I-39 let alone US 45, and the lakes always seem to moderate temperatures at the wrong times. Oh, also, the days it's warmer in Oconto or Peshtigo (up north) than down here. I'm used to getting bested by Waupaca (farther west) but when those places that are farther north and also relatively close to the lake get warmer than Green Bay or Appleton is just insulting.

At wintertime when showers are forecast a lot of days have miniscule to no precipitation. Not annoying, but sometimes when there is a major rain event, forecast highs are in the upper-mid teens while actual highs are in lower teens. The worst one is when monsoon thunderstorms get so close they cover the sun but don't let out a single raindrop.

Having sunny mornings which cloud over by midday, only for the cloud to disappear an hour before sunset.
Hazy cloud scuppering extremely hot days (happened in 2003 and 2019, where cloud appeared early in the day and prevented temps rising further).
August always recording below average sun.
Seeing Paris at 38c while it's 25c here.

Another thing I noticed, having gone through all the Met Office records for Sheffield since the beginning, is that six of the wettest of each month on record have all occurred since 1998! It confirms what I've noticed in my records about the increase in heavy rainfall events in the time I've been recording the weather.
Wettest October: 1998 Wettest August: 2004 Wettest June: 2007 Wettest April: 2012 Wettest November: 2019 Wettest February: 2020
In a similar vain to B87's post above, also we've had a significant decline in summer sunshine between 2007-2020 as compared with the period before, to the tune of almost 20 hours in August, and 15 or so in June, as evidenced in my post here: cdweather.boards.net/post/152718
That period is also somewhat wetter than the period before it.

One thing that really annoys me about Leeds between April and June is when we get North Sea low cloud/fog that spills in on an easterly drift, sometimes not clearing until late afternoon. It’s kind of similar to June Gloom in California. Especially annoying if it’s clear and sunny west of the Pennines.
Oh, and easterly breezes kicking in on hot summer evenings, sending the temperature down rapidly.
General rule of thumb: easterly winds suck.

•Stuck patterns where it’s average or just below and sunny every day for a long time
•When smoke or clouds roll in on really hot days, preventing it from getting as hot as it could
That’s all I can think of and even those are minor annoyances

Bunghole - No interesting cloud shapes/formations. Either clear skies, or the disgusting neverending Iron Curtain - Also when southern warmth dies off somewhere around Scranton, so it will be like 70F in Scranton, but only 40s or 50s in Bunghole. Happens way too often in April NYC - April backdoor fronts - Impossible to get interesting summer highs (100F and above) without disgustingly humid lows. If we reach 100F in NYC, better assume the low is going to be like 80-85F Seoul - Being on a peninsula you'd expect winters in Seoul to be a couple degrees milder than similar latitudes in Coastal China, but actually they're somehow colder en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weihai#Geography_and_climate |

The sea breeze can sometimes hit very early and hard in Umeå, especially in the southern and eastern end where the airport is located, where almost every hot May and June day gets topped out before noon at like 21-24'C while temps can soar close to 30'C just 10km inland. The south-eastern part of time is particularly vulnurable to this, partly because of simply being closer to the sea, but also because that side has nothing but agricultural fields all the way to the sea, meaning sea breezes can travel almost unhindered all the way to the city that way. Luckily, the vast majority live on the northern side of the river that's surrounded by taiga forest, and the effects of the sea breeze can diminish pretty quickly as you get away from the southern agricultural fields.
The sea outside Umeå is also pretty much freshwater, which means it easily freezes over in winter, meaning we get negatively moderated by the sea during spring and summer, but without reaping all of its benefitting moderation in winter.

Pretty much everything is annoying here.
First thing that comes to mind is a cloudy day followed by a clear or partly cloudy night...followed by the next day being cloudy, so I don't get any sun.

I don't have too many complaints about my climate.
The main annoyances with it:
1. Inconsistently cold temperatures in January. It will be 25-35 F for weeks and then there will suddenly be a day or two where the weather will go berserk and warm up to 60 F.
2. The periodic hot spell in summer, usually in June. It's not common to get weather here over 85 F but on the years we do get a couple of days over 85 F it is incredibly miserable.
