16C isn't very summer like but still better than the -10C highs that Toronto usually gets every winter IMO.

ChCh. Toronto's not a bad climate though.

Christchurch for milder winters and more equitable sunshine distribution...

Toronto for not being in one of regions some of the most devoid of interesting climates on the planet, and having something resembling a summer with storms

Christchurch of course. Toronto winters are way too extreme while Christchurch winters are good. Summers in Christchurch are drier too, an added bonus.

Christchurch for being warmer and sunnier, and for not being Toronto, the single least-unique climate on earth.

At least in Toronto, despite the long arctic winters, there's something to look forward to in reward for it. Their summers would have to be at least 4-5°F warmer or so (by means or lows) or so for me to choose it. Accept it and move on.

Nearly any climate beats snowy winters that average at 0C, no matter how feeble the summers are.

For what it's worth, I'm willing to sacrifice some winter mildness for superior summers, getting adequate summer heat is the #1 most critical aspect in rating a climate for me. Toronto's summers aren't all that great, but the 10°F colder on avg (and drier/fewer storms) crummers simply aren't worth the relatively milder winters in Christchurch, IMHO (not like 42-45°F means in the coldest month with a mere 40% sunshine on avg is exactly the mild winters with bountiful sunshine I like).

Toronto, while not that good, is more interesting than Christchurch by orders of magnitude.
