I personally prefer the US west coast type of winter where December is the coldest and January and February get progressivly warmer and warmer. Makes spring longer (which is the season that always makes me the happiest), and you're most "into" winter in December while there's festivity and christmas feelings in the air, and you've summer and warmth very recently. At least when it comes to myself. February (or March) being the coldest month is really depressing imo.

January should be coldest though it varies between years. Record low here is Dec then followed by Feb then Jan

No preference between either December or January. Makes sense for the coldest month to be the one with the lowest sun angle. Wouldn't want any more lag than that, however.

I don't have a strong preference between December or January (it makes the most sense for the coldest months to have the lowest sun angles), but I wouldn't want too much seasonal lag, so I voted January.

Either December or January, not a strong preference between the two. As long as we're on a solid warming trend by the time February rolls around.

Early January should be the coldest time of year. In my perfect world from coldest to warmest:
1. January 2. December 3. February 4. November 5. March 6. October 7. September 8. April 9. August 10. May 11. July 12. June

I completely agree and I LOVE wintertime Sound a bit pagan, but I like the cold to be accompanied with the lack of sun, and warmth correlated to the excess of sun. Last May sucked because we entered solar summer (90 longest days of the year) and were getting days in the 30sF with snow showers . Honestly prefer May to be as warm if not warmer than August.

May still averaged 68/48 in Pittsburgh last year. Coldest day was 43/28 and warmest was 88/62. Cold first half of the month for sure. On an unrelated note I had no idea how cold Pittsburgh was in Jan '77. 19/3 average that month, crazy.

Kind of a tie between January and February. December is too early. I like March colder than December too, or at least as cold. Some of my favorite climates are in Nunavut (e.g., Cambridge Bay and Taloyoak) which I think has a pretty nice/desirable lag. I hate the spring warmup, and any additional cold in March and April are always welcomed.

I like February as the coldest, I hate when January ends and you feel kinda disappointed because the coldest part of winter is done with. My "ideal" coldest three weeks is February 15 - March 5 or so.

Definitely December. The Christmas season is when Iβm most interested in winter and I donβt like it dragging on.

June because I want the brunt of winter to last quickly.
In other words, a seasonal lead in winter is preferred.

July Coldest time of year should IMO be around New Year's Day (or Fourth of July from a SH perspective), and by the end of February it should already begin to feel springlike - but I like a bit of lag coming out of summer, with August being almost the same temp as July, and October still retaining 60-65% or so of the year's total added warmth. Big drop between October and November, and between November and December especially.
