These climates are very different from each other, with NY City having a cold humid subtropical climate and San Diego having a hot semi-arid climate.

NYC very easily. San Diego is a boring hellhole with arid summers.

Both climates have big problems. One is way too dry and the other has too cold winters and slightly too hot summers. I think I'll go with New York City as San Diego is just too dry.

New York City.
Wait, let me actually check the tables.
Nope, still New York City.

Tough choice. I like NYC's warmer summers, but on the other hand, I like San Diego's dryness (though with too long of a dry season) and the sunnier weather. So I'll give the edge to San Diego, especially considering that on an unrelated note, warmer climates can be found further inland.

NYC. San Diego if I'm seeking comfortability by priority, but it's too bland and arid. In this case, well-defined seasonality is appreciative.

San Diego by light years. It's a solid B climate with NYC a D-/E climate depending on the weather station.

San Diego
At the end of the day, I prioritise comfort over excitement. If it was San Fran I might've picked NYC tho.

NYC, because at least there is a decent winter. Although the summer nights can fuck off. I'm highly doubting that 50 F record low for NYC in August though. I think it certainly would have dropped to 45 F if the mean minimum is 58 F.

San Diego, despite being as dry as a witches tit, mostly decent temps year round, and the odd heatwave to make things interesting.

San Diego by far! No damn contest! One of the best climates in the world versus a horrible D- continental climate that is trying hard to be humid subtropical.

Don't really like either at all but NYC is definitely better than San Diego.

NYC
More interesting, better summers by far, more precipitation.
