Both places are about 2 km (6680 ft) above sea level at around 36ยฐN, but have very different climates. One is a semi-arid climate with hot summers and cool winters, and one is a cool and rainy humid continental climate. Raton is on the front range of the Rocky Mountains, while Mount Mitchell is the highest mountain in the eastern half of the United States.

I choose Raton for being warmer in summer and having less rain in winter.

Raton
Not even a contest. Temperate (albeit too dry, and with polar summer lows) climate beats subarctic shithole anytime.

A couple things here. One, those Raton averages are 1894-1953, so they're quite outdated. Also, it's at the foot of the Sangre de Cristos rather than Front Range.
Anyway, I choose Raton as it's better in almost every way.

Raton, despite being warmer and drier. Those summers in Mount Mitchell are just gross.

Raton, NM. The climate is decent, but the scenery is just amazing. Imagine traveling on the southwest chief to Los Angeles eating a warm breakfast burrito in the cafe car while watching the landscape around you

Raton in a heartbeatโsays a lot when I'm forced to pick the drier winter climate! Mount Mitchell just gets wayyyy too many warm fronts and has no summer.
Nice thread idea by the way.

Mount Mitchell's not that horrible climate but I find Raton has a better balance of temperatures range. It can be a coin-flipper.

Raton by lightyears and even that isn't my ideal climate.
Mount Mitchel is a disgrace - An epic climate fail, as they say.
