A selection of some of the worlds best or worst Mediterranean and Tropical Wet/Dry climates. Where and when do you prefer your precipitation to fall ? Sorry, not a lot of evenly distributed rainfall patterns amongst these 20 cities. Its either feast or famine as far as rainfall is concerned. As for the poll, vote twice for each zone, ie two for the Med climes and two for the Monsoon climes ( or not if you so choose, the max vote is four ) Limassol, Cyprus. Conkary, Guinea. Perth, Australia. Brasilia, Brazil. Beirut, Lebanon. Kinshasa, DR Congo. Athens, Greece. Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Algiers, Algeria. Chittagong, Bangladesh. Casablanca, Morrocco. Bangkok, Thailand Cape Town, South Africa Dhaka, Bangladesh. San Diego, USA. Rangoon ( Yangon ), Burma. Valparaiso, Chile. Darwin, Australia. Gibraltar, British Overseas Territory. Mumbai, India.

If you're going to include subtropical Med climates, why not include some subtropical wet summer climates as well? A battle between subtropical Med and tropical wet/dry seems a little unfair.

Gibraltar (best of the bunch) and Perff for the Med section, obviously 2 really good climates.
Brasília and Kinshasa for the monsoonal section.
San Diego should certainly not be included in this poll, it is firmly hot semiarid (Bsh) bordering on desert with less than 10" of annual precipitation. If you wanted to include a California Med climate, include a real one like Redding or Napa.

Well wasn't taking the slightest notice of temps etc, merely rainfall patterns of either feast of famine in the periods of high and low sun. But on the other hand, point taken.

These are all pretty good (even Valparaiso isn't too bad), so it's hard to pick. A lot of these climates have some really depressing sunshine figures in the cloudiest months (Rangoon is the worst offender here) or have low-ish annual figures, so I avoided those. And some of the Med options are a bit lukewarm in summer for my taste, so I cut those out too. I also don't like extreme wet / dry contrasts like in Conakry (just look at those Jul-Aug rain figures!). So, I choose as follows:
Med: Limassol and Perth. Tropical: Darwin and Bangkok.

Mediterranean Climates:
Limassol and Perth
Tropical Monsoon Climates:
Darwin and Bangkok
For the best balance of sunshine and rainfall. All are really solid Climates (B- for Valparaiso all the way up to A+ for Darwin)

I'm always surprised to see how dry Valparaiso is when I glance at its climate chart.
