I think I'll go with the latter. The colder winters are a worthwhile tradeoff for significantly warmer summer lows, more snow and better storm prospects.

Kamyshin as well, it’s not too sunny though at 2100 annual sunshine hours but summer is sunny.

There are a few others that could of been included on this list, like Portsmouth, UK, or Spences Bridge, BC. And since you included some 51N place you could of also included London.

Frankfurt! Kamloops is a bit too prone to extremes and too dry. The Mongolian/far Eastern and Québecois/Newfoundland ones are horrid, perhaps partially except for Blagoveshchensk which is better than expected. This parallel is too chilly for me but western Europe and interior BC are still fairly decent. Kamyshin has similar temps to Mpls, 5 degrees further north.
