Well, an extraodinary June 2022 in Darwin and the Top End. Really was a month divided into thirds.....the first 10 days of the month ran at exceptionally high temps and record levels for both max and min temps and wet season like humidity and DP's. We had several mins exceeding 25c ( monthly mean 20c ) and the max temps were also well above the monthly mean of 30.7c, including a 34.6c on the 7th, only 0.4c below the all time June record. The first week or so of June also featured thunderstorm activity and heavy rain in the outer suburbs, upwards of 50mm at some PWS out in Palmerston. Darwin City scored some rain as well, although the storms missed the official site at the Airport, and my suburb of Leanyer. Mid month, a huge Polar Outbreak in Southern Australia produced conditions in the deep north that washed away the tropical moisture and gave us some traditional June weather....low DP's and humidity, sunny clear days with above average max temps and the first sub 20c mins, with 17.3 on the 11th and 17.7c on the 12th being the lowest temps of the month. The last week of June saw the weather patterns change again, this time a rare northwest cloudband delivered moisture and overcast conditions across the Top End. Combined with a southerly surge from southern Australia, this has delivered very cold ( for Darwin ) max temps and unseasonal rain. The last 4 days of June darwin has recorded 4 sub 30c days including the 5th coldest June day on record yesterday - 25.3c, which is 5.4c below the long term mean max of 30.7c. The last day of the month ( today ) struggled to 26.4c under overcast skies. The 5.6mm of rain that fell yesterday was the 5th highest June rainfall total since records began in 1941. Despite the near record heat at the begining of the month and the cold conditions at the end of the month, we still managed to be above the long term means, with mins running +1.6c and maxs +1.2c. The June rainfall was in the 95th%ile and well above the long term average of 1.8mm ( the median for June is 0.0mm ) Personally, my gauge picked up 9mm late yesterday afternoon, the second highest June total in 32 years.

Sheffield June 2022 SummaryJune was slightly milder than average, and slightly drier than average overall. However, it felt like a fairly dry month due to most of any rain happening in a few days only, particularly the final day. During the first week, the month seemed to be off to a terrible start, with one of the coldest maximum temperatures recorded on 5th, which was also a wet day. The second week started with low pressure, but more "normal" temperatures. The third week saw a brief "plume" of warmer temperatures, due to a cut off low to the SW, and although windy, it was very warm on 17th with a relatively rare (for June) high of 30, but the next day was laughably cold as a strong cold front moved through. However, a more moderate and longer period of warm conditions followed, until 24th. A trough got stuck just off to the west of the UK during the final week, leaving west parts of the UK wet but eastern parts relatively dry, but rain never far away and temps a little below average. The final day, in particular, was very wet locally; with a convergence of showers forming a big blob of heavy rain throughout the evening.

June was nearly bang-on average temperature wise, just a very mild and stable month overall. Average high: 22.6C (normal: 22.4C) Average low: 8.8 (normal: 9.2C) Mean: 15.7 (normal: 15.8C) Warmest high: 32.1C (June 18th) Warmest low: 18.(C (June 18th) Coldest high: 15.2C (June 15th) Coldest low: -0.1C (June 1st) Precipitation total*: 38.0mm (normal: 65.8mm) Precipitation days: 11 (normal: 12.1) *The precipitation data is a definite undercount, as we had a massive rainstorm on the 20th that dropped between 45mm and 75mm of rain in a couple hours in much of the city and left widespread flooding, however the airport escaped it entirely and only recorded about 1mm that day. The other weather station in town is further south and east and probably got a precipitation count that's more representative of what much of the city got, so when they release their data next week I imagine it will be a fair bit higher than this. Weatherbox with the official stats: And just for the fun of it I've added 45mm to the precipitation to see what it would like, as this is closer to what much of the city actually received:

Average June conditions (1991-2020) Average high: 14.5°C | Daily mean: 10.4°C | Average low: 6.2°C
Average precipitation: 39.1mm | Average precipitation days (>0.2mm): 14.3 | Average relative humidity: 66%
A cloudy and drizzly June with little temperature variability. Maximums were slightly cooler than average and minimums were slightly warmer. Rainfall was nearly average, but there were significantly more rainy days than usual. Overall quite an unremarkable June, apart from an unusually cool first week.

2nd hottest June on record and well below normal rainfall. 4.5F warmer than normal and 3.41" drier than normal. I got a bit more rainfall than the airport (my total was 2.47" for the month). Wettest day was June 10 when two rounds of strong t-storms came thru. After that we had a dry spell that lasted over two weeks and hot temps - set some daily records before a frontal system came though on the 26th. Had hottest temps we've had since August 2015. Lowest max: 88F Highest min: 78F Only 1 day failed to reach 90F. 9 days with thunder (there were several days with t-storms in the area that went around us) Highest dewpoint: 79F Lowest dewpont: 60F Average dewpoint: 70.9F

June here was above average with a couple of warm spells. Rainfall at my location actually ended up above average due to a couple of days with heavy showers. The region in general had below average rainfall, but my location on higher ground, inland & just south of the South Downs, always catches more rain anyway. Sunshine was close to average. June started extremely dull and monotonous, but was saved by the glorious late month heat including 5 consecutive days above 30C. Thus the month was well above average. Well, the only negative was that there was only one thunderstorm.
Highest high: 31.6C (28th) Highest low: 20.5C (29th) Lowest high: 15.0C (2nd) Lowest low: 6.1C (6th)
Deviations from 91-10,
High: +2.5C Mean: +2.3C Low: +2.1C Precipitation: -34mm (38% of normal)
edit: after 6 months I noticed that the weather box says "2021" lol...

June was warmer and drier than normal overall. We got a lot of rain in the first week or so, and then things really dried out. That is a common pattern in June, as the latter part of the month is often dominated by ridging aloft.

June felt like Aucklands first true winter month in maybe two or three years due to the high rainfall and number of rain days. Otherwise temperatures were slightly above average.
