July 2022 across the Top End, indeed the whole Northern Territory was characterised by a cold spell that, while not record breaking per se, nevertheless delivered a long lasting run of well below average temperatures, both max and min. Darwin commenced a run of sub 20c mins on 27th June, and this 35 day sequence remains as of 31st July. Site record is 53 in 1965 Daytime max temps below 30c also featured, with 21 consecutive days failing to break the 30c mark ( 27/6 - 17/7 ) Mid month Darwin was running at record low averages fo July both max and min temps, although a steady warming trend in the second half of July precluded any records. Nil rainfall for the month as expected in July The min average of 17.0c is the second coldest July since 1941 and 2.3c below the long term average The max average of 29.8c is the coolest since 2006 and 0.9c below the long term average Highest max temp - 33.0c on the 29th Lowest max temp - 26.4c on the 7th Highest min temp - 19.9c on the 29th Lowest min temp - 14.1c on the 24th Alice Springs has had a cold July, particularly the first half of the month also running at record levels of cold before a second half 'warm up'. Jack Frost returned with a vengance, a record 15 consecutive sub zero morings and 18 for the month. The second half of the month warmth saw max temps in the mid to high 20c's and this pushed the monthly max average out to 20.0c, just above the long term 19.9c The min average of 0.3c was the 4th coolest on record and 3.5c below average. Nil rainfall recorded. Highest max temp = 28.7 on the 24th Lowest max temp = 14.3c on the 3rd Highest min temp = 7.9c on the 25th Lowest min temp = -4.0c on the 15th

July 2022 Summary, Sheffield
July was an unusual and fairly strange month. It saw quite the contrast from the record breaking hot spell to a very bland, overcast oceanic period in the final third. The beginning week was hardly up to much, with lots of cloudy and cool weather, albeit dry. The second week saw high pressure over us, with the first warm weather arriving. After a brief cooldown, a fairly brief but intense hot spell developed. It saw 850hpa temperatures up to 23-24°C over the area thanks to high pressure to the east and a cut-off low to the south-west, dragging up a plume of this very hot, dry air. The Sheffield record temperature from 2019 was shattered on 18th, only to be beaten again on 19th, reaching 39 degrees. If anyone said there could be any chance of Sheffield beating 100°F, I would have laughed them out the door, but here we are. A couple of the nights were also very warm for the location. 19th was certainly a memorable day with the intense heat, feeling somewhat at odds with the general atmosphere of a place like Sheffield.
As soon as the heat spell was over, the weather deteriorated rapidly in the further north parts of the country, with considerable cloud being the main feature, as well as an annoying presence of frequent drizzly rain which rarely amounted to much. The month continued this way to the end. It was considerably drier than average overall. This was also the first July I've witnessed since 2007 to feature no thunder at all, which was a disappointment. Despite the final average temps, it wasn't a classic summer month, as taking away the two hottest days, the real average was not a lot better than normal, and the final third buggered things up with the constant cloud and drizzle. An month to remember for the middle third however.

July 2022 SummaryAverage high: 13.8C (+0.7C) Average low: 4.0C (-1.9C) Rainfall: 56.4mm (-16mm) Rain days (>= 0.2mm): 19 Sun hours: 144.2hrs (+7.8hrs) Note: Due to some missing days, I had to estimate the final figures using Viewbank data. Overall, it was a cooler than average month, mainly due to the well below average nights. It was slightly drier and sunnier than usual. We got a bit of everything, including three frosts, a sub-10C high, some mild days, and even a thunderstorm. Quite a decent winter month after the drizzly monotonous June.

Pretty decent month but could have been stormier. With only 9 precip days, it was more like an average or drier than average month. A couple downpours really bumped up the totals, otherwise it would have been pretty dry. Hopefully August is wetter. Kinda annoyed the average low is 59.9F and not 60.0F though.

Since I spent most of the month here, here’s Shitchester which had been upgraded to Borefuckshitchester after this awful month:
Average high: 82.8 (+0.3) Average low: 61.4 (-0.8) Mean: 72.1 (-0.2)
Precipitation: 1.78” (-1.78”, 50%) Precip days: 7 Days >1mm: 7
Highest temp: 92 on the 20th and 23rd Lowest temp: 49 on the 10th Highest low: 74 on the 20th Lowest high: 73 on the 9th
Thunderstorms: 5, nearly all weak
It was pleasant but bored me to tears with not even one single ounce of interest.

July 2022 was the 4th warmest (+2.3c) and 3rd driest on record (17%), as well as being sunnier than average (114%). The 40.2c high, recorded on 19 July, was the hottest day on record in London.

As I have said many times, when there are heat waves in Western Europe, there is nothing here at the same time. And as expected, after a miserable May, there is never anything extraordinary in July. Daily mean was 0.1c below average, average high was 0.2c cooler and precipitation was about 130% of the norm.

July 2022 can be summarized in three words "hot and dry". It was the ninth hottest July on record, and the hottest since 2012. It only received 0.42" (10.7 mm) of precipitation, about 20% of normal. It had 18 days that hit 100°F (38°C) or higher, the most on record for any month since the record-hot summer of 2011. The July record high of 110°F (43°C) was tied on the 19th of the month. That was also my personal record hottest temperature experienced, as I went outside during the hottest part of the day. There was a low of 82°F (28°C) set the next night, the hottest low since 2012, and my personal warmest night on record. The first 28 days were extraordinarily hot and dry, with every day reaching or exceeding 94°F (34.5°C), and only 0.01" (0.3 mm) of precipitation. This heat broke on the last three days of the month, bringing cooler weather and some rain.

July here was well above average, though no record breaking maximum temperatures I did have a record breaking highest minimum temperature. It was also the driest July on record for SE England, Odiham in Hampshire recorded no measurable rainfall at all & as a consequence a hosepipe ban has been issued for Hampshire & the Isle of Wight. Sunshine was above average. Stats from my PWS in SE Hampshire Av. Max 26.1C (+4.3C*) Av. Average July conditions (1991-2020) Average high: 14.1°C | Daily mean: 9.9°C | Average low: 5.6°C Average precipitation: 32.0mm | Average precipitation days (>0.2mm): 14.9 | Average relative humidity: 64%
Highs and lows were both slightly cooler than average, while rainfall was near average. Notably, there were 3 sub 0°C lows, and quite a bit of sunshine despite the high number of rainy days. Temperatures also seemed more a bit more variable than usual for winter. Overall a decent month by Melbourne winter standards.

Started warm, sunny with high diurnals before actually turning into a winter month, staying wet rainy and cloudy. Also there were two days of no sun recorded, one was a fully overcast day (so at most 1hr of sun added) and the other was quite sunny (5-6 hrs added). So at the end of the year I may add those hours to the monthly total.
