Auckland is warmer, wetter and a lot more stable, while Christchurch has more heat potential despite being cooler. In that sense, Auckland and Christchurch resemble cooler versions of Sydney and Melbourne, respectively. Auckland Christchurch

Its like asking where would you rather live....Kabul or Mogadishu....dude....it ain't any sorta choice ! New Zealand is full of sheep shagging Kiwis....no bastard wants to live there....they all emmigrate to AU ! But Auckland I suppose.... Christchurch ( I've been there ) is just Melbourne or Hobart but with beastiallity... ( see above re sheep shagging )

Auckland. I’d pick Christchurch if it didn’t have a freezing mean minimum as late as November

Auckland, simply for being warmer and having rainier winters/springs.

Auckland by a hair. They're both similar, especially they're pathetic sunshine hours, only that Christchurch has cooler lows. Should've been between Auckland and Nelson (wanna see if people would sacrifice the warm summers of Auckland for Nelson's decent annual sunshine hours).

Nelson's climate looks super similar to Auckland, only it's winters are colder. I'm not sure if sunshine hours would be the deciding factor in a climate battle between Auckland and Nelson.

Christchurch for being drier and having seasons.
Auckland is just San Francisco with wet summers.

Auckland. Christchurch is just your typical boring SI east coast climate. The only advantage over Auckland is the potential for more heat in the summer and snow in the winter, but these only happen a couple of times a year.
Again, Auckland sunshine hours are incorrect - should be 2150 hours.

The real question is, is Motueka better than Auckland and Christchurch?

Didn’t realize how pathetic Auckland’s record high is That's why even I am picking Christchurch. It actually has a chance of, you know, getting warm in the summer like it's supposed to.

Changed my vote to Christchurch because I like it better overall. Low mean minimums shouldn’t matter that much to me, because I’m not a gardener yet.
