Some places in the middle of NZ's South Island have slight 'continentallity', with 25c summer mean max temps and 8c-9c in the winter months. Alexandra, Cromwell in Central Otago. Yeah but those are really dry and still nothing like Orange fundamentally. "NZ-ish" is way too vague and shouldn't be used to describe Orange.

^^I've spent some time in the South Island and I think NZ-ish is about right re temps both max and min compared to Orange. Perhaps the description refers to the diurnals both summer and winter and the coolish summer averages. Orange, being on the windward side of the Great Dividing Ranges is substantially wetter than lee sides of Central Otago.

I think Orange is exclusively cloudy cold whereas the NZ places are actually capable of very cold sunny days, a much more higher latitude feel.

C-
Crap, for Aussie standards. Weak summers, chilly winters. I voted "D" in the poll to avoid making it look like I actually like this climate. At least its winters are warmer than my own.

B. Among of the best climates in Australia. Summer is excellent, winter is decent. Probably wetter and cloudier than I'd like in the winter months but it helps keep things greener in the warm season.

^^ some years ago I drove from Tibooburra ( far north western corner of NSW ) and arrived in Orange just before sunset. I'd been doing an outback jaunt around Birdsville-Innamincka region in late Oct-early Nov with max temps in the low 40c's. Even Tibooburra was in the mid to high 30c's. After a life time in the deep north, one tends to forget about diurnal ranges in the central west of NSW, especially at 900m asl. By the time I arrived in Orange I was pretty well wasted by the drive and I still had 4 hours to go to my mothers place. So I thought, 'fuck it, I'll get a motel room in Orange', and even more excellently I found one next to a KFC ! So I alight from the Ute and it had only been a 16c day and the next morning dipped to 3.7c ! And me dressed in my finest Darwin tropical rig...singlet, shorts and thongs !! brrr Most Aussies ( at least those north of the NSW-QLD border ) think Orange has a COAC [ of a climate ]
