Hey guys! Under Koppen climate classification what would the climate of downtown Thessaloniki be? Is it Csa? I am a bit confused...

BSk - Cold Semi-Arid Climate (Steppe Climate) Thanks! That was my second choice! Actually the average annual T has slightly increased to 17.9C with the 2023 data so far so it is possible it would shift to BSh (Hot-Semi-Arid) soon...

In reality it's a subtropical climate on the dry side.

It's classified as BBa: Boteved, boring, arid

It's classified as PyD: Pay your Debt.

Why is the cutoff between 'cold' and 'hot' arid climates an 18 C annual mean? Seems kind of arbitrary to me.
Either way, I do know one thing this climate is: quite good.

It's not Mediterranean, as it is too dry for this classification and the precipitation is spread evenly throughout the year.
In my classification system, this is semiarid subtropical, in the same classification as places like Los Angeles and Mildura, AU.

Yeah, the spread of the precipitation throughout the year is obvious so I would say its semi-arid with strong Med influences

There are actually two cut offs between BWh-BWk and BSh-BSk, one is the 18°C mean, the other is whether all months have an average low above 0°C or not. The 2nd one was devised to solve the "San Diego problem", where San Diego is BSk if you use the 18°C mean, when it's obviously BSh

I mean using the 0C cut off

I’m surprised precip is so evenly distributed there

theoretically it is Csa since july has an average precipitation below 1.2 inches I think as you go further inland in Thessaloniki you see a distribution that is more csa. For example the north suburbs of Thessaloniki seem much more csa. Downtown Thessaloniki on the other hand seems to be somewhere between csa and semi-arid but more semi-arid

theoretically it is Csa since july has an average precipitation below 1.2 inches Doesn't qualify, as the driest high sun month doesn't have less than 1/3 the precip of the wettest low sun month
