Man eats chili pepper at Edmonton city council meeting to prove climate change is 'not a huge issue'
A man went to fiery lengths to prove his point at an Edmonton city council meeting Monday morning after he ate a chili pepper to show local lawmakers that climate change is not a big issue.
In a speech mostly in support of Alberta’s oil and gas industry, the man takes aim at city council’s support of climate-friendly policies.
“I kind of wanted to demonstrate that climate change is not a huge issue because I brought a chili pepper and I was going to eat it and show that even though something heats up a little bit, it’s not the end of the world,” the man said at the public hearing, where speakers get up to five minutes to raise concerns on city issues.

‘Murderers’ and ‘criminals’: Meteorologists face unprecedented harassment from conspiracy theorists
“Murderers.” “Criminals.” “We are watching you.”
These are just a handful of the threats and abuse sent to meteorologists at AEMET, Spain’s national weather agency, in recent months. They come via social media, its website, letters, phone calls – even in the form of graffiti sprayed across one of its buildings.
Abuse and harassment “have always happened” against the agency’s scientists, Estrella Gutiérrez-Marco, spokesperson for AEMET, told CNN.
But there has been a rapid rise recently, coinciding with extreme weather in Spain. A severe drought has shrunk water levels to alarming lows, exacerbated by record-breaking April temperatures.
The abuse got so bad that in April, AEMET posted a video on Twitter calling for an end to the harassment, and asking for respect. Even the government intervened. Teresa Ribera, Spain’s minister for the ecological transition, posted on Twitter in support of the agency: “Lying, giving wings to conspiracy and fear, insulting … It is time to say enough.”
The harassment of meteorologists by conspiracy theorists and climate deniers is not a phenomenon confined to Spain.
National weather services, meteorologists and climate communicators in countries from the US to Australia say they’re experiencing an increase in threats and abuse, often around accusations they are overstating, lying about or even controlling the weather.
In Spain’s case, much of the trolling revolves around the rehashing of an old conspiracy theory: so-called “chemtrails.”
Under many of the agency’s Twitter posts, especially those that refer to more extreme weather, users have posted images of blue skies, crisscrossed with wispy, white trails. They falsely claim the trails contain a cocktail of chemicals to artificially manipulate the weather – keeping rain away and causing climate change.
It’s a theory roundly rejected by scientists.
Altea never maded rain.

It truly bewilders me as to how so many people make crazy claims so often despite the lack of any scientific evidence to back them up. It's like some sort of bizzare mental disorder, as if what matters is not the truth but as what they wish the truth was. I've said that before, and I'll say again, conspiracy theorists and inept politicians are all a bunch of brain damaged tardnuggets, inhibiting progress in the scientific world.

Not sure if it relates to science, but it does to weather...when people say "don't go out in the cold, you'll get the flu" and my mum's friend who restricts her grown ass son from drinking cold drinks in winter because "he'll get sick with a sore throat". Wtf...

it's not "science" really but the so called "fermi paradox" pisses me off. we know that nothing can travel faster than light. we also know that animals like humans like to conserve energy. no wonder they don't build self-replicating drones to colonize the galaxy. fermi asked if space travel is possible why don't they do x, y and z. there's no paradox.

Infectuous bronchitis is spreading in Europe... in chicken. Since the early 90s, chicken have been vaccinated against the disease. IB was already once eradicated from Finland, but now it has returned, and thus vaccinations are to be started too. So... conspiracy theorists have found out about it, with predictable results. Finnish chicken farmers have been bombarded with emails that the vaccine is a covid vaccine mRNA variant, which causes infertility and deformation in human foetuses. Which obviously isn't true. But that is what the "scientists" and "authorities" are saying... Great Reset, deliberate depopulation, Soros, Gates, you know the truth. bruh don't mess with bronhitis

Here are 10 random science myths that I here often:
1.We only use 10% of our brains- Any MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan would debunk this. 2.Autistic people are 'stupid' with 'no emotions' and have a disease- No, it is a genetically-linked neurodevelopment disorder that can be managed through sociological therapies. 3.'Vaccines cause autism'- If they did, what parent would prefer having an autistic child (which could be a lot worse); or see their children buried in the cemetery from a preventable disease. 4.'Chemicals are bad'- Then stop breathing, as oxygen gas is a chemical! 5.It takes 7 years to digest chewing gum- It is indigestible, so it would pass through your entire digestive system. 6.Organic food is better than normal food- Organic farmers can use pesticides more damaging to the environment, and there is no nutritional difference. 7.All types of radiation are bad- No, only UV, x-ray and gamma rays are dangerous; and only at a high enough dose and exposure time. 8.There is no gravity in space- The planets are held by gravity to the sun. They are just not falling due to their angular momentum. 9.You can hear explosions in space- No, sound waves are caused by the vibration of particles. Since space is a vacuum, you will hear silence. 10.Earth is the only planet with water- Europa has twice as much water by volume than the 'Blue Planet' 11.Climate change is not real- Look at some maps.
Sure, this goes a bit off topic, but I would like to elucidate some common misconceptions about science.

It’s a lot like Down’s syndrome but without a distinct physical appearance. Some people are more intelligent than others, that’s a fact and it’s ok, no matter how much liberals claim that everyone is equally intelligent. 3. While vaccines don’t cause autism, or any mental disorder for that matter, but humans have survived hundreds of thousands of years without vaccines, so they are not essential. 9. No one says that. 10. No one ever said that either. 11. I don’t want to start a debate, but there is no proof that climate change is happening.

“The human species” Wrong, there are more than one species of human, although they are all extinct, such as Neanderthals, Denisovans, Homo Erectus, Homo Heidelbergensis, Homo Habilis and Homo Antecessor.

“Windless 5C feels colder than windy -20C because the air has no humidity when it’s below freezing while the air still has humidity when it’s 5C”
Another thing said by a fuckwit smooth brained mongoloid on Reddit. It seems like Reddit has a higher percentage of low iq users when compared to other websites. Same as Quora.

Obviously autistic people are stupid as they lack the ability to decipher neurotypical peoples' emotions.
And when you're autistic enough (low-functioning autism) you might be so moronic that you fail to communicate that you need to take a shit and shit yourself. Or if you are medium-functioning, you think you could drive from England to Kenya with an electric car.
Autistic people like to tell others that "we are normal, we are just neurodivergent", while in reality they are fucken idiots who don't know the difference between and . And they think that knowing 1000 digits of pi makes them smart.
I would rather kill myself than being autistic.

I mean, imagine a Star Wars being completely soundless in space scenes. You get my point.

Believe what you want, but unfortunate for you, lying and mental gymnastics don't change the fact that smallpox and polio vaccines (and others) have directly reduced disease transmission: 9. Duh, no one is arguing against that, but the point is that some people believe that because when they hear about space, they think about the movies they've heard/watched.

When people say shit like "trust the science!" in a really snarky, back-handed way, it's really annoying and it immediately tells me everything I need to know about that person. Most of the stuff I have gripes with has already been posted about, for example "How can climate change be real, it's normal here!" I'm going to assume this post is facetious to give you the benefit of the doubt, but if it isn't then you have no clue. You have described someone who is severe on the spectrum and then applied it to all autistic people, especially with that last line. I have known autistic people who are able to carry themselves perfectly fine in society. I even knew one who made somewhat of a 'recovery', being quite severe as a child but then becoming functioning as an adult.

I know, in some people it's barely noticeable, if at all. Not to mention that when I went to elementary school in the 90s, even awareness of autism was almost nonexistent, and a lot of people went undiagnosed.
You're right. I were drunk and only wanted to stir up some shit.

While Tranniete has gone too far and quite dehumanized them, that still doesn't make them normal or mentally well. Autism is still a mental disorder and the small percent of autists who are capable of living well is the exception, not the rule. Some people with down's syndrome can live normally as well, that still doesn't make them normal.
