The city of springs vs the city of eternal spring. JinanJinan, the capital of China's Shandong province, has a warm continental climate with cold, dry winters and hot, rainy summers. It has 72 artisanal springs, because of that the city is known as the "City of Springs". I've been to them before, it's pretty nice. KunmingKunming is the capital of China's Yunnan province. It has a mild climate year-round, hence it is known as the "City of Eternal Spring."

Jinan for the great shoulder seasons and marginally less crummery crummers.

Tough decision. I’ll go with Kunming for the cooler summers. Both are excellent climates.

Kunming, but I'll yearn for Jinan's decent sunshine hours

Kunming for having a comfortable summer and more winter rain.

Jinan for the great shoulder seasons and marginally less crummery crummers. I think you'd find summers in Jinan aren't "crummery" at all. Don't be fooled by those rainfall numbers.

Kunming for the much cooler summers but I wouldn't like the wet season.

Well sure, the temps are spot on ideal for me, but the dewpoints and rainfall totals especially are still too high. May and June as well as September are the most summery months there, they’re not washouts…but 7” of rain in July and August is wayyy too much for me, even especially at those warm temps. Those months are also pretty cloudy, especially compared to the rest of the year. And it’s not like they have all the rain fall on a couple days, nearly half the days in the peak monsoon see rain. So TL;DR it would very much feel crummery.

You'd have to be out of your fucking mind to call Jinan summers "crummery". It rains on less than half of days in the wettest month even using the drizzly 0.1 mm threshold and has near 90 F highs. June would have an almost arid feeling with that meager amount of rain.
As for the climate battle, Kunming easily. Better in every way except summer temps, and even then it's not too bad.

Too fuckin humid and rainy. “Crummery” is defined differently for everyone. To me, 78F/57F with 1” of rain is a far less crummery month than 89/73 with 7” of rain.

I'm pretty sure the term "crummer" was purely based on the lack of summer heat and storms...
