Decent old heatwave over east... the 40c max at Groote is a shocker... especially so with the 'build up' DP's ! As Cameron Hinezy mentioned, 38c temps are as rare as rocking horse poo at Gove... only half a dozen in recorded history. ( again pretty s'house dp's as well. Ngkurr 40 stupid something too... hang on, I'll look it up.... yeah, 42.4c... at least the dp's were ONLY around 20c !! harsh/tough in anyones language !! Gotta luv a deep north El Nino...

Did they fix the malfunctioning Darwin aero humidity sensor greys? 29C dewpoint yesterday when nearby hot spots like Charles pt were 2-3C lower. I posed the question on Pilko's Chat On Weather FB Page: At this stage it seems legit according to Kyle, the BoM's AWS Tech guy...

How do we define a 'bad' build up ? Excessive heat ? ( max and min temps ) Brutal DP's and RH ? Lack of storms ? Lack of rain generally ? Well, the general consensus amongst Pilko-ites is that this season ( 2023 ) is right up there with the worst in memory. Funny thing, weather memories.... often they are at odds with stats and data.... hence the old. "it was hotter/colder/wetter/drier back in ( insert any year in your living memory.... lol )". Personally I find 2023 to be pretty 'effin' ordinary, no question.... but one only has to go back 4 years to 2019 to see a really poor season.... hotter and dryer ! And suss out the 1976 'build up' - only 148mm between 1st of April and 31st of December ! And the monsoon not arriving until the second week of Jan 1977. Mind you, March '77 made up for it a bit with over 1000mm for the month and 2,100mm for the period Jan-April 1977 ! One can only hope the same scenario in 2024. Here are the 2019 build up details, and the 1976 build up details. 2019 rainfall: 2019 monthly mean max temps: 2019 montly mean min temps: 1976 Rainfall: 1976 monthly mean max temps: 1976 monthly mean min temps:
