September in the NT....the first Spring month in the south and the last 'dry season' month across the Top End. And dry it has been... zero rainfall in Darwin and Alice Springs for the month. Some isolated showers were reported from some coastal sites around the Top End, especially over the East side at Gove. Been a hot month as well, with several sites breakng historical heat records. Max temps in the low 40c's are very unusual in September. September Summary 2023 in SE Sheffield, EnglandSeptember was much milder and much wetter than average. The first third of the month was extremely warm with a week over 25°C and year's hottest temperature over 30°C - this was accompanied by very high humidity with the dewpoint of 23°C on the warmest day of the month. But, after 11th it became very unsettled with a lot of showers or longer periods of rain. The rain was usually heavy and came to some 23 hours of rain in the month and 150% of the average rainfall. The temperatures were largely average after 11th but due to the heatwave in 3rd one it was still well above climo by 2.8°C... September was warmer than July or August. It was one of the warmest recorded.

Synopsis: A mixed bag. This September saw a first-class start with near-record warmth (the first time since 1983 there's been three >=95°F highs in September at the AP!) due to anomalous ridging, then the usual "non-weather" pattern for fall of high pressure to the north bringing northeasterlies settled in, with some cold overcast crap and tiny diurnals in the end. After all however, a marginally above average month is a marginally above average month, can't really complain about it otherwise.

Perth, Western Australia (Early Spring) 31.9523° S, 115.8613° E
Max monthly temp: 34.3°C Min monthly temp: 5.2°C
Mean Max temp: 22.3°C (+1.8°C) Mean Min temp: 12.1°C (+2.7°C)
Rainfall mm: 44.6mm (-43.5mm) Rainy days >1mm: 7 days (-3.9 days)
Sunshine hours: 220.2 hours (-10.8 hours) Relative afternoon humdity: 54%
Quite a big change this month in Perth as you can see with it being significantly warmer than average in both high and low Mean temperatures. Rainfall is Half the quantity as average with a few less rainy days. Sunshine hours is a day less than average so again I find Sunshine hours is the most consistent thing about Perth rarely being that different from average.
As you can see looking at those stats this first month of Spring would be an average mid summer in Southern England or the likes of Christchurch. Pretty impressive but I really hope these significantly higher than average mean temperatures don't continue into summer or we will suffer. I'm pretty sure most of Australia experienced warmer than average temperatures this month

September was a pretty non descript month with not much of interest happening. It was the 7th warmest but simply due to consistent several f above average and a lack of cold fronts rather than any noteworthy warmth. That said, I don’t mind boring in September, just wish it was a bit cooler. Average high: 81.3 (+3.9 f) Average low: 49.4 (+1.4 f) Mean: 65.4 (+2.7 f) —7th warmestPrecipitation: 0.67” (-0.76”, 47%) Precip days: 7 Highest temp: 94 on the 1st Lowest temp: 40 on the 25th T-6th warmestHighest low: 62 on the 2nd and 3rd Lowest high: 71 on the 11th and 15th —3rd warmestThunderstorms: 5 Here’s the month (00-00, AgMet): And the year (7 PM-7 PM, coop):

The old record monthly average max was eclipsed by 1.4°C, and there were 15 days with a max of over 20°C, which I'm sure is a record for September if I bothered to look. It was also the driest September on record at Essendon and the second sunniest September on record. It basically looks like October. An insane month by all standards. Another fun fact: This September's avg monthly max is warmer than November's last year.

We actually started off pretty average, but the rest of the month was dominated by sustained warmth. We smashed our previous monthly max in 2013 by a full degree C. It was also much drier and sunnier than average, with almost all the rain coming at the start. The heat wasn't just confined locally, but across most of Australia. In fact, it seems like quite a few places around the world had a record warm September looking at some of the other weatherboxes. An interesting fact is that the max of 10.9c on the 8th was tied for our coldest day of the year (and the coldest September day since 2009), but that pales in comparison to what happened the rest of the month.

Not as great as a month as the numbers would suggest. All precip days were consecutive and the first 2/3 of the month had very high humidity, which made it feel much wetter than it really was. Only interesting thing was Lee which didn't amount to much. The last 1/3 of the month was very pleasant though at least. I'll post numbers from my PWS starting with October since there's only 11 days of data for September.

September was one of the warmest on record. Though September is usually characterised by gradually falling temperatures, this year did see nothing of that. The first 10 days had a mean of 15.8C and the last 10 a mean of 15.3C. Anecdote: on Friday the 29th I walked to the grocery store wearing shorts, which I don't think I've done before so late in September. It was a warm month all over; Sodankylä Tähtelä (67N), data since 1901, recorded its 2nd Köppen Schmöppen Dfb year ever. Glorious month!

Average September conditions (1991-2020) Average high: 17.4°C | Daily mean: 12.3°C | Average low: 7.1°C Average precipitation: 43.4mm | Average precipitation days (>0.2mm): 15.2 | Average relative humidity: 56% As others have previously mentioned, this was an unprecedentedly warm and dry month. The average high was well above average, significantly warmer even than the October average high. It beat the previous warmest September average high by an impressive 0.9°C. The highest temperature recorded this month was 31.1°C, only 0.2°C off the September all time record high. Lows were also above average, but the anomaly was not as extreme as it was for highs. This was also by far the driest September on record, receiving less than half of the precipitation of the previous record holder (11.8mm in 2018). Despite the unprecedented warmth, the coldest low temperature recorded this month (0.9°C) was the coolest September low since 2017, and the coldest high temperature (11.6°C) was the lowest September high since 2006.

September was the joint warmest on record in the UK, tying with 2006. The month saw a record seven consecutive 30C+ days & also recorded the highest temperature of the year, something that has only happened in September four times since records began. For me I not only recorded my highest temperature of the year, but also my warmest minimum. The month was well above average, warmer than both July & August, with above average sunshine. Rainfall was a little above average.
