KarrathaToo dry in winter and spring, and a bit too hot in summer, but still an easy choice compared to frigid hellhole Thompson. Interestingly enough, Karratha ( and the nearby Pilbara coast ) gets a bit of a second rainfall peak in early winter ( May and June ) from Indian Ocean frontal systems from the south and Indian Ocean north west cloudbands. When I was at Cape Lambert 10 years ago we had a 10" downpour that completely flooded our site, closed us down... from a north west cloudband... was as good a torrential rain event as i'd seen up in the NT.

Karratha is the more tolerable "hellhole" - Deserts are beautiful to me. Hot deserts any day over tundra/taigas.

Karratha, the intense sweating is mediated by dipping in the ocean
