What a COAM ( c**t of a month ) Nov 2023 was.... heatwaves, fires, drought, storms that stubbornly refuse to impact the Darwin Northern Suburbs and Airport, debilitating DP's and woeful humidity to finish off the month. Last 5 days here: Storms everywhere except here: November started off hot and much drier than normal, with the El Nino and +IOD in full force across the Top End. The Airport recorded less than half the monthly mean rainfall, with the storms being active south and west of the coast. OTOH, Alice Springs in the south of the NT had 3 times their mean rainfall ( 30mm more than Darwin ! ) Lucky bastards ! Gove Airport in the far north eastern corner of the Top End only recorded 5.6mm for the month, the mean is 44mm, although to be fair the median is only 5.3mm. Decent Nov heat in the south east and south west of the Top End... Ngkurr over east maxed out at 43.'3c. Arltunga ( near the Alice ) recorded the Territoty min of 12.4c. Rainfall - 60.4mm falling on 13 days ( long term mean 143.1mm) Highest daily fall - 17.0mm on the 17th Max temps - 34.4c av ( long term mean 33.4c ) Highest max - 36.1c on the 19th. Another month, another summary.
For Perth, Western Australia 31.9523° S, 115.8613° E
Max monthly temp: 39°C Min monthly temp: 11.1°C
Mean Max temp: 30.3°C (+3.7°C) Mean Min temp: 17.1°C (+2.8°C)
Rainfall mm: 3.8mm (-21.5mm) Rainy days >1mm: 2 days (-1.8 days)
Sunshine hours: 323.5 hours (+5.5 hours)
As you can see this month has been significantly warmer in Perth and drier than average. Very much a summer month all round with some brutally hot days which no doubt raised the monthly average. It was also significantly drier aswell so hoping we don't get many more bushfires this summer. Sunshine was pretty much bang on average which again for Perth is the most consistent aspect about it's climate. Really hope these significantly higher than average temperatures don't carry into summer which begins today.

Essendon November 2023 Summary:Average max: 22.3°C (-0.8°C) Average mean: 17.7°C (+0.4°C) Average min: 13.1°C (+1.6°C) Max high: 33.7°C (10th) Max low: 20.4°C (11th) Min high: 16.1°C (1st) Min low: 8.6°C (5th) Precipitation: 42.6mm (67.9% of avg. precip) Precip days: 10 Precip days (>1mm): 8 Sun hours: 192.4 hrs (85.6% of avg sun hours) Highest wind gust: 67km/h from the N (11th) This November started off pretty normal for the first half of the month. There were equal periods of cooler weather and hotter weather, however it remained dry and mostly sunny. It was pretty typical other than that. The second half however, was just gay. I literally don't have another word to express my feelings for it. You can see below why that is the case. El Nino and a +IOD apparently are absolutely 0 match for a slightly positive SAM and some weird ass wonky jetstream. What's the point anymore honestly lol.

My cellular weather station that I mounted to a utility pole at Allapattah Flats on October 22nd. First complete month of data from a station that I've built other than the one in my backyard. Previous installations were only set up for days or weeks at a time.

Average November conditions (1991-2020)
Average high: 22.1°C | Daily mean: 15.6°C | Average low: 10.8°C
Average precipitation: 53.6mm | Average precipitation days (>0.2mm): 11.4 | Average relative humidity: 52%
An unusual month with a varied first half and a cloudy and drizzly final week and a bit. Highs were near average but lows were extremely mild and stable, not dropping below 10°C all month. Precipitation was near average but mainly fell in the final week.

November 2023 SummaryAverage max: 22.4c (-0.1c) Average mean: 17.2c (+0.6c) Average min: 12.0c (+1.3c) High max: 32.0c (10th) High min: 18.1c (11th) Low max: 15.7c (1st) Low min: 6.8c (5th) Precipitation: 51.4 mm (62.5% of mean) Precipitation days (>=0.2mm): 13 Precipitation days (>=1mm): 9 Sunshine hours: 192.4 The month had average maxes and above average mins. The first half featured typical spring variability and was quite dry and sunny, though I wasn't here during that period. In contrast, the second half was cloudier and more consistent with warmer mins. During the last two weeks, the eastern half of Australia was dominated by a stormy system. While we got some rain from that, we missed out on the storms. It's all too common though to see other places stealing our thunder (literally). Overall, it was nice to have a November that wasn't way above or below average unlike previous years, but we could have gotten more out of that eastern Aus system.

Fall 2023 was officially the mildest fall on record, narrowly beating out fall 2009. As of today, we currently have zero snow on the ground in the city. We did have a couple of decent snowfalls in late October and early November but none of it stuck around for very long. And with 2656.2 hours of sunshine as of the end of November, we're now on track for 2023 to be the sunniest year on record, beating out the record of 2686 hours set in 2011 and 2013. Average high: 3.3C (normal: -0.8C) Average low: -6.4C (normal: -9.5C) Mean temperature: -1.6C (normal: -5.2C) Warmest high: 11.7C (Nov 18th) Warmest low: -0.1C (Nov 5th and 6th) Coldest high: -8.2C (Nov 23rd) Coldest low: -19.9C (Nov 23rd) Precipitation total: 6.2mm (normal: 12.4mm) Precipitation days: 5 (normal: 7.1) Sunshine: 128.2 hours (normal: 91.3 hours)

Near normal temps. 0.2F warmer and 1.27" less precip than normal. This year November has both a cooler average and record low than January & February! Quite cool to start the month then a warm spell followed. Then average to below average temps dominated the remainder of the month. Finally started getting some decent rainfall but still in exceptional drought. Severe storms in the area on November 20 with some weak tornadoes (EF-0 & EF-1). Before then, I hadn't heard thunder since September. Data for my PWS. 0.2F cooler than the airport and 0.63" more rainfall.
