Sydney. Less hot summers and less cold rain. Busselton's summers are cooler than Sydney's Summer nights are cooler and crisper in Busselton. Their highs are warmer than our highs for the most part (we're mostly around 28C) - though Busselton's summer highs (30C) will tie the far western Sydney's average summer highs (i.e. Penrith, Richmond). So it's a bit complicated.

As much as I like those cool summer nights in Busselton, my hometown's precipitation pattern and cooler days makes me give Sydney the vote. However, I would be happy to live in either climate; as summers are warm, but not oppressive; and winters are mild, but not freezing in both places.

Don't forget the stronger sun here though. Marginally. Busselton is at 33.5 S, I live at 43.0 N. My maximum sun angle is 70.4 degrees; theirs is 79.9 degrees. Therefore, the sun in Busselton is a whopping 4.5% stronger than the sun in Madison on the summer solstice.

Busselton easily, looks like an awesome Mediterranean climate. It's amazing how the Sydney airport is warmer than Busselton (for both daily average temps and average lows) pretty much every month of the year. Easy Busselton vote for the less hellish record highs and more reasonable warm-season dewpoints. Not that Sydney seems all that humid during the summertime- average Jan-Feb afternoon dew points seem comparable to San Diego or somewhere around the Great Lakes.

In the summer it's the warm Tasman Sea (East Australian Current) that warms up things, especially the nights (which can be pretty muggy). In the winter, it's the westerly foehn effect - Though it only "heats" up the days by a degree or two.
