The Soviet Union (1922-1991) was a transcontinental empire that consisted of different "republics". After the collapse of the Soviet Union, every Soviet republic became an independent country. In this climate battle, I will compare the capitals of the republics as they existed from 1956-1991. Which former Soviet capital has your favorite climate? And as a bonus, name which one has the worst climate. Yerevan, Armenia Baku, Azerbaijan Minsk, Belarus Tallinn, Estonia Tbilisi, Georgia Alma-Ata (currently Almaty), Kazakhstan Frunze (currently Bishkek), Kyrgyzstan Riga, Latvia Vilnius, Lithuania Kishinev (currently Chișinău), Moldova Moscow, capital of Russia, capital of the Soviet Union Dushanbe, Tajikistan Ashkhabad (Ashgabat), Turkmenistan Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Tbilisi seems like the best. Dushanbe preferable outside of summer but it's too hot and dry in summer.

Dushanbe easily, plentiful winter/spring rains, dry summers, and great temps.
Worst is Moscow for being coldest

Dushanbe, Tashkent and Ashgabat are good. Dushanbe for being the wettest.

There are a lot of climates to go through, so I had to review them individually and pick the best.
Tashkent ended up being the winner.
Tbilisi, Dushanbe, Yerevan, and Bishkek are runners-up.
Worst are Moscow and Tallinn.

Not very nice to be on the list. Baltic States were occupied by the Soviet Union, nobody wanted to be in it.
But it is pleasant to heart that some of you guys recognize that Moscow is the worst.

Ohmmmm, well none of these are "good" but Minsk seems to have the best seasonal balance seeing as I don't want the scorching summers that come with milder winters in this region.

Sure, 'nice' snowcover for 5 months a year is such a joy.
