Both are oceanic climates, but one is clearly more "continental".

Hmmmm dunno about 'continental' other than having 4,000 klm of continental landmass to the west, north west and north of its near coastal location....? Anyway, Bega shits all over Auckland climatically.

Anyway, Bega shits all over Auckland climatically. Just relative to Auckland. Also, you can be on the coast (or near coast) and have a continental climate - NYC, Vladivostok, Sapporo, Boston, etc.

Bega. Better temperatures and I also assume it probably gets like 300-400 more sunshine hours than Auckland.
Although Auckland does have a better precipitation pattern.

It actually seems somewhat sunnier than Sydney usually, so say approaching 2700 hrs (we're 2600). But may be this is just my anecdotal experience (by that I mean checking its weather and cloud cover in satellite -- We usually appear cloudier). But maybe I'm biased (since I've been noticing how annoyingly wet and cloudy Sydney has been in the past 4 years). Perhaps 2500 hrs is more realistic.

Bega for the warmer high temps and much better springs. Auckland's lag loses it the battle.

Bega for more seasonality and being more variable, though I prefer Auckland's rain amount

Bega for being drier and having more seasonality. Auckland does have a better precip pattern (winter peak) but summers are still wetter than Bega's.

Bega, while not ideal, is much better than Auckland.

Bega for its ideal seasonality and having several hundred hours more sunshine than Auckland (though I prefer Auckland's rain amount)
