Generally, an all-around B, I think. Great winters, even if summers are lackluster.

Yeah Turku probably has the best climate in Finland unfortunately I could merely add three attachments and am yet too lazy to set up an Imgur account so What's your personal rating of Suomi's climate Ariete?

Too cold biased, and the shoulder seasons are very weak. Summers are okay. It would be great if Europe shifted south so that southern Finland was on the 50th parallel.

Yeah some real jewels for cold lovers: Joensuu is interesting in particular. In my opinion it is the most impressive continental climate in the geopolitical European region (excluding Russia). A heat record of an insane 37.2C while having very strong winters that are way more severe than Baba's in Umeรฅ in spite of being quite a bit more southerly. In fact, the winters are colder than in Luleรฅ at almost 66N

C- to D overall. Has a little bit of everything, but lacks in most parts. Too cold overall, too weak shoulder seasons.

Yeah this part of the world would do a world of good with 2C warmer weather May-September... it really would!

Ah yeah forgot that #FreeKarelia #KareliaIsFinland #KareliaThereforeIsSweden Joke aside, it's pretty impressive considering how large Ladoga indeed is. That area must be utterly dominated by westerlies in early winter to enable an ice pack to be formed there. I'd be interested to see whether the eastern shore of Ladoga has more maritime features, especially in terms of winter lag. Any East Karelian weather stations that you know of?

E. Cold country and it only gets colder the further north you go from the cold and cloudy climates in the south.

Like most of Europe, winters are too warm for the latitude and where winters do get reasonably cold, summers disappear. Not continental enough for my tastes but otherwise decent. B.

To demonstrate the coldness of Northern Karelia, I made the Joensuu averages and compared them with Punkaharju's some 90 km south. Of the stats I have, Punkaharju is also the northenmost kรถppen Dfb in Eastern Finland in the 81-10 normals. In this map kronan (or whoever) takes the boat from Joensuu down to Punkaharju, and you'll see where the locations are on the map: And here's the current averages: Though Punkaharju is capable of some very low records, the averages, both highs and lows are warmer in every month.
