One climate mentioned often here, another where a regular lives. Which do you prefer? Similar annual averages, Ardahan has more sun, much higher diurnal and annual range. Mostly just a continentality contrast I'd post Göle instead of Ardahan of course, but there's no wiki box for Göle. Sadly, got removed.

The lows are scary in Ardahan, but I still go with Ardahan. Ardahan is my choice because Ardahan has warmer highs.
Stupid precipitation pattern, though.

Ardahan is colder in the winter but warmer in the summer. Ardahan has the warmer average highs. Umea is warmer than ardahan in winter but Ardahan is warmer than Umea in the spring. Ardahan is my choice because Ardahan has warmer summer than Umea. Ardahan is the best climate in this poll. Ardahan has warmest summer.

Ardahan because of the warmer summer highs.
If the electricity goes you could freeze to death in Umeå anyway so the slightly less cold winters aren't that much more useful. Ardahan's winter highs are similar to Skellefteå a bit north of Umeå, and I've been there quite a bit in winter. Not pleasant, but not that much worse than Umeå.

The lows of Ardahan look really nasty; 1°F in January, 15°F in March. About what my coldest Januarys or Marchs could be. But I don't like how cold Umeå is in September and October makes winter feel much longer. Spring daytime temperatures are too cold as well. Also, comparison is unfair as Umeå's temperatures are from the last 12 years or so, while Ardahan is from the last 50 years.

Ardahan. Umea already has frigid winters so not really a deciding factor, the better summers and sunshine in Ardahan win it for me. There'd certainly be more storms aswell.

Ardahan, it's warmer during the day, the stronger sun will make it feel warmer than Umeå even when the shade temps are the same, plus the winters aren't as dark.

Ardahan
Much better summers, cooler lows year-round, higher diurnal ranges, colder winters, likely much stormier and frequently foggy owing to its high elevation; everything is better than Umeå. One of the most one-sided climate battles on here!
Umeå is absurdly warm for its polar 64° N latitude, too.

It's sunnier, and the days are warmer in every season. The highs from November to February are almost just as often during the night, and lows during the day. Ardahan gets strong sun and -5'C during winter. Umeå gets -6'C and overcast 4h days.

Both are horrible, but Ardahan is at least warmer for most of the year

Climates are actually quite similar, which I didn't expect.
Expected Ardahan to be quite a bit more continental than it is.

this poll was more lopsided than I expected. Same average temperatures, sunshine difference not that big. Seems like both warm weather fans and cold weather fans would rather have a higher diurnal range to get colder winter lows and warmer afternoon temperatures for most of the year.

Ardahan for the warmer summers and extra sunshine. Although, the precipitation pattern is bad and the winters are freezing.

I'll have to be the odd man out and go with Umea for the lower sunshine hours. They're both very good climates though.
