While the best climate in the Carolinas, it's way too hot during summer nights for me. Also, the risk for hurricanes won't help. I'd need a helicopter base there to evacuate when you know what hits the fan C+

D+. Summer lows are too warm, but at least it seems to get some thunderstorm activity.

B, good highs year round but summer nights seem kinda oppressive. Summers are also too moderated and don't get any exciting heat, and are too damn humid. The winters are nice with lots of sunshine and don't get the same sort of cold blasts that the rest of Eastern US does, so that's a plus

I could see Savannah and Jacksonville maybe challenge?

I assume evening swims in the ocean would be quite epic by August and September too there! What about Virginia Beach by the way? Looks like an acceptable compromise for myself

Changed my rating to E–. Way too fucken humid, and took the mean minimum as the average low (bloody regret it). Diurnal range is nonexistant, too! Gay climate.

Not my cup of tea. Too moderated, diurnal ranges are too low, especially in summer (daytime highs too cool for my liking, night time lows too warm). Winters are obviously too warm for me. They do get exciting weather at times, with hurricanes being a big threat and even the occasional big snowstorm that hits out there (Noreasters). Gets an E+ from me.

I find it kinda lame that a climate at 35/36 N only reaches 33 C in an average year.

I'd guess it's similar in Funchal at 32°N but at least that's mega-offshore and is a hot subtropical climate in terms of winters.

E+. Winters are interesting, but too warm and not snowy enough. Summers are unpleasantly humid, have too warm nights and are boring as fuck. It’s also too wet year round.
Could still be much much much worse though and at least it’s generally pleasant outside of summer.

B, there are much better climates in coastal nc that sacrifice a bit of stability and still manage to be more stable than wilmington, savannah and other coastal locations (relative to averages) with more warmth than hatteras. Cape hatteras is really humid though with july dewpoints around 72-74 on average. It also gets very epic t storms during summer. Water temps in the low 80s in summer makes for great swimming also. Example of a warmer climate that is still pretty darn stable relative to other coastal locations. Solid zone 8b climate, maybe 9a in recent years ( will check) The record lows look out of whack but they are accurate. Data goes back to the 60s only however. December really has never dropped below 16 lol. I give you manteo on roanoke island... where the infamous roanoke settlers came. Btw alex cape hatteras is 35.2 degrees north. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manteo,_North_Carolina

C. Winters are a bit too chilly. The name of the airport made me chuckle though as it's a character in UK soap 'EastEnders'

Better than central inland NC climates though not much an improvement. Grade D+.

I'll be generous and give it a C-. The somewhat moderated summer temperatures very slightly pushed it over the D+ threshold. Precipitation is good and winters are pleasant. Chief complaints would of course be the summer humidity as well as being too sunny.

With a mean maximum of 90F in the summer, averages in low to mid 80s, and no anomalous heat, well, those are damn nice summers for the east coast. The winters aren't great of course but at least they aren't gloomy. It's a solid B climate. Always liked this climate.
