Anybody planning on following it? It's in Korea so not good timezones for most of us but I'll try watching it when I can, especially the snowboarding and the bobsleigh-type events. Britain's not much of a winter sports nation but we've apparently got some strong medal hopes this year, might even be our best Winter Games ever. I used to follow biathlon pretty closely when Ole Einar Bjørndalen used to win everything, once when I was in Oslo there happened to be a race going on in Holmenkollen so I had to go and watch it, I couldn't find the entrance to get in for some reason but somehow still ended up in the stadium without paying lmao

Where the "boring" or "yawn" smiley at? Really don't like the Olympics anymore. Many boring sports assembling that have no legs to stand on their own.

Oh ssh you, how can you say this is boring ffs, even if the action's not all that good you can still admire some stunning-looking landscapes a lot of the time lol Plus the Winter Olympics is the only time these sports get any kind of mainstream media coverage over here, and what's more I've never been skiing or snowboarding in my life, so there's the added wow factor of "How the absolute fuck can they even stay on those things?!"

No greater winter Olympian than Eddie the Eagle. Our main hope is usually the Female Skeleton. We've dominated that event since 2010.

NHL are not sending players to the olympics this year. Canada is being nice and giving other countries a chance.

Depending on the schedule I might watch something. Skating, snowboarding and ski-jumping is what interests me most.

I will probably watch something (I still find it more interesting than the most of the stuff aired on TV), but to seriously follow it is another thing. I didn't seriously follow neither Turin 2006...

We're good at winter things? Learn something new every day. I'm definitely watching it for the skeleton, one of my favourite sports to watch because of the pure balls/stupidity needed to do it.

It's the only thing haha, 7 of our 12 medals come from this I like watching skeleton/bobsledding/luge as well haha

That was a very good one for Sweden. They had 1 gold in 1992, 1 in 1994, and zero in 1998 and 2002, yet in Turin they won seven gold medals from nowhere It was a major identity crisis within the winter sport community after the 2002 games and then all out of a sudden everybody over-delivered. Both curling teams won, the ice hockey team did, even the female hockey team beat USA in the semis for the first time ever. Anja Pärson won her last slalom race, the ski relay teams over-delivered... it was a crazy couple of weeks and I saw it all because I had some sort of flu Are there any sports this year Italy are particularly hopeful in? As for Sweden I really doubt there will be any gold medals this year. They all seem "under the ice"

I do remember the British TV presenters saying "Look at that, we beat Sweden how good are we?! " on the last day of the 2002 Games though en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Winter_Olympics_medal_table

Sweden's a bit of a joke in terms of summer olympics too... Since 1988: 0-1-2*-4-4-0-1-2 * one of the golds was a naturalized Russian female sprinter who hardly spoke Swedish at the time So for all of Sweden's supposed exploits in sport, getting a mere 14 summer olympic golds in seven games is just mind-boggling.

At least the only way is up though! We came 3rd in the medals table in London and 2nd in Rio, which was just absurdly fantastic to watch considering we normally only used to win 5-6 golds and in 1996 we only won one. Yeah, we bought the best coaches and the best facilities and pay our athletes a salary with money from the National Lottery and we run our Olympic programme like a finely-tuned machine, but we're still a mid-sized country full of people who aren't all that sporty so good luck keeping that run going lol...

They all seem "under the ice" Olympic games results are always unpredictable, in the last few winter Olympic games Italy didn't performed well (Turin edition was quite of an exception with 5 gold medals, but that's quite common for the year a country hosts the games). This year we have some good athletes in both the men and female teams of downhill ski, but also a couple of really good specialists in disciplines like cross country skiing or figure skating. Some of them will probably catch some medal, but gold medals... that's less likely.

I found a few screenshots of the previous Winter Olympic Games moment on my Google Drive, already happened 4 years ago! Looking forward to watching Figure Skating, Speed Skating, various Skiing and Snowboard events.
