One of the best assyrian songs I listened to. Ethereal As a speaker of Assyrian Neo-Aramaic, do you understand the lyrics of this song? If yes, can you post them in Assyrian script please? He sings with a very rural "redneck" accent. So it's not easy to decipher the lyrics. Lol. But I'll try to summarize it: "Shala" is shawl. He is singing about a girl he likes who wears a shawl around. He is telling people to "bring her down immediately" to him ("salya deya"), as she lives in the elevated village Barwari. He also requests for her to bring a white dress with her (bride dress). She'll be satisfied with him more than water would quench her. He uses the "barwari" village name throughout the song. She lives there. He will quickly climb to that hilly village to be with her (as he says), before he is "kidnapped by sleep" (meaning before he falls asleep). He then says he will support her and have her back even if 10 men stand in his way. At the end of the song he says he wants to promptly ask for her hand so his heart will never break. And if he dances, he says, he will joyfully jump around because his heart will sing in her name. That's the best I could. This song has gotten popular outside of the Assyrian world. Personally, I'm not a fan of it and I would wished that other Assyrian songs got the exposure Lol, cos it's too rural for me and lacks a nice melody. For a nice modern Assyrian dance song, this does it for me (this is a recent cover of a 1993 song and it isn't bad): !ܬܲܘܕܝܼ

Btw "tawdi" is in the western dialect or variety (though some consider it its own language). Most Assyrians (or eastern Assyrians), including the singers in the video, say "basema" ("basemta" to a female). And the song is in the eastern variety. en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%DC%92%DC%A3%DC%9D%DC%A1%DC%90#Assyrian_Neo-Aramaic
