The first true spring days are so easily among the best days of the year here. A lovely and mild 5'C with a strong sun and calm weather with everything melting, and all around you can hear the sound of dripping and pouring water. Amazing. Nothing makes me happier. Especially when the snow is just about gone and you start to smell the wet ground and half moldy grass, and also cow shit from the fields. Though that is a ways down the road considering there's almost half a meter of snow in the city and 1m of snow in Tavelsjö.

A few pictures from rural Lääne-Virumaa: I loved the wide open feel combined with tall trees. Temperature was around 1°C.

Were walking the dog. Thought the sunset looked pretty neat down by the lake. Then we got back home and saw the actual sunset. I didn't touch any settings other than saturation and contrast.

Roughly what time was that Babu ? Might be a bit blurry due to camera limitations and not enough artificial light as amplifier to offset the poor quality of the cellphone camera but anyway here's 20:03 in Nyköping by the harbour tonight

That's some very nice twilight Babu, especially considering solar time then would be 21:02 DST if Tavelsjö was in the natural time zone It's going to take until mid-April until I can snap a similar photo at 20:54 down here.

Not much of a picture, really just to illustrate how dry it's been. Look how brown that grass is. Of course, this time of year isn't really known for lushness, but still...

Still looks greener than even moderately warm July's here alex992 This town always seems to get either a deluge or a drought in July, hardly anything in between. Last summer I didn't even notice how little it rained because of how cool and cloudy it was.

Well yeah, you probably have cool weather grass vs hot weather grass like we do. It takes a lot for this type of grass to get brown. Strong sun + dry weather wreaks havoc quickly.

I wish we had warm weather grass here. Brown grass in summer is the only thing that sucks more than green grass in winter. Couple pics from the past few days. Forsythia: Magnolia Daffodils

^ I agree. I remember during our record dry June 2015 we had really brown grass throughout the whole month. Looked disgusting. Nice pics, btw.

I think I’m one of the only ones here who likes brown grass. Sign of a hot and dry summer and I love the crunchy sound it makes. I also find it a nice break from the monotonous green of summer although I can totally see why people want green grass. I don’t mind green grass but I definitely prefer brown grass.

Brown grass in winter and early spring are fine but I hate it in summer. Summer is the time for green grass.

Another gorgeous day. These are from Patika, slightly farther inland from Jüri. Temperature was a windy 4°C. Local golf course melting in patches: First sign of life, a caterpillar:

Some images from the historic subarctic town Røros taken two days ago. If you look closely you can see the runway at Røros airport (625 m asl) in the valley. That's where temps are recorded at Røros, and the one I use when I mention Røros. During my stay there, the overnight low was typically -27c and the daytime high was 0c or slightly below. Such lows are very cold for late March, even for Røros. This is taken with my iphone through the windshield. Drove along that small road on the mountain plateau. Saw one car stuck, had been driving too close the road shoulder and sunk into the snow. The main roads were bare but this is a small mountain road. The road took me to this place, ca 850 m asl. The snow was dry but not old, so skiing was perfect. Røros town, ca 650 m asl This is not Røros, but Trondheim today March 30th, late afternoon

Today I had a nice walk around my village, finally some flowers and some green are starting to show up! Trees around my place are mostly beech trees, ash trees, chestnut trees, pines, oaks, birches and wild cherry trees (roughly in this order). They tend to prefer different amounts of sunlight and water, and different soils, so the kind of tree you can find changes a lot depending on where you are. That's not a good sight at all: pine processionaries. 1, 2, 3... this tree (probably a chestnut tree) was quite old. A little holly plant. The picture is not so clear, but this definitively looked like a little juniper bush. Finally some flowers! Some daffodils Some wild primroses and some violet flowers (probably these flowers) Today thee were also a lot of woodpecker around. They are quite shy birds, they did their best for remaining at a distance higher than 15 m from me, so the best picture I managed to took is this one. They were probably green woodpeckers. They are quite funny birds, they fly in a really peculiar way [1] and I also heard some of them "drumming" along the walk.
