Here in the Pacific Northwest usually once a winter or so we get Arctic outflow conditions to the coast that happened last month for example. I'm wondering in similar climates in Western Europe like Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt etc. how often they get similar conditions and what the Europeans call it?

I think they just call it the Siberian anti-cyclone, which doesn't seem all that accurate. But yeah the cold comes from the east, not the north (maybe rarely). |

It's nicknamed the "Beast from the East" - correct me if I'm wrong, but that occurs when an elongated area of high pressure to the north and east transports cold airmasses from Siberia.

Europe does have similar Arctic outflow winds. They are northerlies or northeasterlies and locally known by various names depending on the country. The most notable of these names is the Bora, which is a cold wind that blows in the Adriatic Sea, bringing sea-effect snow to eastern Italy. |
