SMHI's summary about the month in Sweden:
"March turned out to be a cold month in the whole country, especially in the northern part. Last time we had an equally cold March was in 2013 and before that in 2006. The month was in many ways relatively normals with regards to precipitation, but with a slightly drier tendency in many places in the country.
A less than sunny start to the month was outweighed by a sunny end to the month, with the exception of the deeper South Sweden with a cloudy March.
Strong cold started the month off, with the temperature below freezing in as good as the whole country, even during days. The lowest temperature of the month was in Särna in northern Dalarna (province/county) with -37.1°C on March 1.
Thereafter followed a couple of days with common winter weather without drama. The month's strongest snow and rainfall passed through 11 to 13 March. Mild and cold weather then took turns and the mild air went at its farthest north on March 21. The short-lived spring warmth culminated with 10°C locally. The highest temperature of the month was 10.9°C in Falun in Dalarna on March 25.
Between 24-27 March cold air took charge again from the north. On the 25th the temperature sank by about 10°C in an hour when the cold passed over southeast Northland and east Svealand.
The cold air was preceded by a snowfall, that on March 28 even reached the country's southermost parts. Thereby most of the country was once again snow-covered. The month's greatest snow depth was measured as 166 cm in Kittelfjäll in the southern Lapland mountains on March 26."

Tenperatures more like a Chicago or NYC March. That included the coldest March day in history.
Sun hours of January.
Rainfall of a wet November.

very cold march, just like 2006 and 2013. but unlike 2006, this month had consistent cold.

March here was cold ( -2.7c degrees from average), drier than average with about 40% of precipitation and with more sunshine than average.

Here: Ca 4c below the average (81-2010). Mean was ca -2.9c.
Seems to have been the second coldest March since 1962 (2006 was colder) in competition with 2013.
Mar was colder than Feb.
The March record low (in the city, not airport) of -22c on Mar 1 is the coldest since 1901!
The record high in the city was 11c, at the airport 8.2c.
Precipitation was ca 40 % of normal.
It was sunny for March with 169 sunhrs.

Mean was -4.1C, that is -2.5C colder than average. Precipitation was around 12 mm.

How much of that precipitation shock on the day with the 2°C high early on was snow would you say @hectorconvector? Looks like it might have fallen several inches in one day there.

This was actually melting snow from the last 3-4 days - the snow equivalent was about 8" I seem to remember. It was almost 100% snow, the rain on that day was just a bit of drizzle. |

Fun fact: the difference in temperature between March 2013 and 2014 was 9.2'C. The coldest March in a long time followed by the warmest March in a long time.
2018 was at 5.2'C just a couple of days ago but the last few days has risen it to -4.9'C preliminarily which is only 2.1'C below average for 2002-2016.

jgtheone Wow your PWS temps almost exactly match the official temps! Goes to show how much of a microclimate I'm in with the river, wetlands, irrigation, farming etc. Perhaps you can teach Aussiestormfreak a lesson or two  Still waiting on the BOM to fill in the last day of March....

I'm not too far from the airport so that should be expected, the only difference is that I get some random cool nights. I'm looking forward to winter for this very reason  And yeah, my other PWS was much more aussiestormfreak-esque |

Nasty month. Lows were probably fractions cooler here due to the Kolmården range blocking some westerlies overnight, trapping the Russian air here, but we're talking 0.2°C or something:  |
