March in Malta was above average, with around average sunshine & slightly below average rainfall. We had a couple of bursts of warm air imported from Africa at the start, middle & end of the month & because the warm winds came from a SW'ly direction the NE coast recorded higher temperatures. We had a cool & stormy period towards the end of the month, which gave the lowest temperatures, most rainfall & some thunder. Stats from my PWS in St. Paul's Bay: Average High: 19.7C (+1.6C) Average Low: 14.8C (+1.6C) Overall Mean: 17.3C (+1.6C) Highest Max: 25.7C (16th) Lowest Min: 10.4C (24th) Lowest Max: 15.0C (23rd) Highest Min: 19.2C (31st) Rainfall: 40.4mm (71%) Days with Rain: 12 Max Rain in Day: 19.3mm (23rd) Days with Thunder: 3 Sunshine*: 239.0hrs (101%) *from Luqa

March was rather close to average here (-0.6°C). Despite that, it was colder than January, which shows how anomalous January was. Januray 2018 was the warmest January ever in Paris. January 2018 was warmer than all of the previous Januaries. January 2018 was warmer than March 2018. March was also duller than February. It was very dull. It also was much wetter than normal. Much much wetness. Avg Max: 11.0°C/51.8°F (-0.9°C/-1.6°F) Avg Min: 3.6°C/38.5°F (-0.3°C/-0.5°F) Days with thunder: 0 Days with snow falling: 4 Days with snow on the ground: 5 Max layer at Orly airport: 3cm (19th)

Average high: 38.0 (-4.8) Average low: 26.3 (+0.5) Mean: 32.2 (-2.1) Precipitation: 3.02” (+0.52”, 120%) Precipitation days: 11 (+1) Snowfall: 29.4” (+13.1”, 180%) Snow days: 8 (+1) Max snow depth: 10” on several days Days snow lying: 25 Highest temp: 53 on the 31st Lowest temp: 16 on the 18th Lowest max: 30 on the 16th and 19th Highest min: 40 on the 28th and 29th The average high was well below average, but not in record territory while the low was slightly above average. Precipitation and snowfall were well above average. The main issue was the stability. It tied for the 13th lowest march record high and didn’t see a temp above the March average high (43) until the 26th. However, there was also no extreme cold with the T-12th highest record low and the T-6th highest low max. Just boring ass, slightly below average stable oceanic crap. Heres the month: And the year: FUCKING BULLSHIT

A few noteworthy stats: -First time since 1984 that March was colder than February -February set a record with 5 days at or above 70F. None in March. -This month had more snowfall than the past two winters combined.

The Arctic month of March 2018. 4°C below avg. Mean snow depth: 23 cm (!), max 32 cm Mean snow depth: 11 cm Værnes: Average 24-hr mean for March is 1.2°C using 1986-2015 and was 0.5°C using 61-90. March 2018 was the 5. coldest at Værnes (recording since 1946). Last year: mean 1.5°C. Precipitation was 34 % of normal. The record low in the city is the coldest since 1901, very close to the all-time low. NE winds and High pressure was in controll several periods during the month, giving us very cold lows but also sunny days. Edit: March was not colder than Feb. No data for the upgraded Lade station for Jan, so Værnes is used that month. Now we have two very cold months in a row. When will we get some deserved above avg weather? Larger Mid-Norway region: Ålesund (IV, Nørve): Avg high: 4.8°C Avg low: -1.5°C Mean: 1.3°C (-1.6°C) Abs high: 9.5°C Abs low: -7.6°C Precip: 34.1 mm (34 %) Sunhours: no data. Fureneset (S of Ålesund and N of Bergen) had 174 sunhrs Røros airport (625 m): Avg high: -2°C Avg low: -16.7°C Mean: -9.7°C (-4.1°C) Abs high: 5.9°C Abs low: -37.1°C Precip: 21.6 mm (75 %) Mean snow depth: 62 cm, max 68 cm Sunhours other cities: Oslo: 168 sunhrs Bergen: 166 hrs Kristiansand: 157 hrs Tromsø: 149 hrs

Average max: 5.6C (-2.5C) Average: 3.2C (-1.7C) Average min: 0.8C (-1.0C) Precipitation: 110.2 mm (+35%) Sunshine: ~65 hours (-34%) Snowfall: 29 cm Just another winter month, almost nothing springlike about it at all. The first three days of March 2018 were the three coldest days ever recorded in March here so it was always likely to be below average - and then the 18th ended up being the fourth-coldest March day ever recorded. That 10.6C on the 26th is the warmest day of the year so far, so this has been the first time in 30 years that we've gone into April without having even reached 11C.

Difference with the 1981-2010 average: Average high: -1.0°CDaily mean: -0.7°CAverage low: +0.1°CMarch usually sees a noticeable increase in both rainy days and precipitation, and this year wasn't the exception. We're still watering our lawn, though; we usually stop in either April or May. Data says the month was colder than usual but it felt pretty average to me (but then again, a difference of -0.7°C isn't noticeable by most people). Now we're heading into April which is the month where we usually see the first snow flurry. A few years ago we experienced the first flurry in March. This year wasn't the case, luckily.

April snow seems unusually early for your climate and latitude. Has there ever been any snow fall in January/February? The wikipedia box shows 0.1 snow days for January and 0.2 for February (and March).

Looks like a quite warm summer by your standards. How come there are such weirdly cold summer nights and so small differences of daily lows annually? Is the maritime air cooled down by temperature inversion over the Patagonian mountains?

April snow seems unusually early for your climate and latitude. I'm guessing it has to do with the altitude. If you have two climates with the same average temperature but one is located higher than the other, the higher altitude climate will experience more snow. Has there ever been any snow fall in January/February? The wikipedia box shows 0.1 snow days for January and 0.2 for February (and March). I've never seen snow in January nor February.

Looks like a quite warm summer by your standards. Not really, just around 1 or 2 degrees warmer. How come there are such weirdly cold summer nights and so small differences of daily lows annually? Is the maritime air cooled down by temperature inversion over the Patagonian mountains? Mediterranean climates, especially high altitude ones, experience significantly more diurnal range during the summer than during the winter.

(I).Has there ever been any snow fall in January/February? The wikipedia box shows 0.1 snow days for January and 0.2 for February (and March). I've never seen snow in January nor February. (II.)I. Aye, certainly true! Oberon's winters are averaged in such a way that it makes it look warmer than it really is; despite average winter highs of 7°-8° C according to documentation, there are many days not in excess of 3° C (with some ice-days); the averages are such due to the odd 10° C days that arrive with plentiful sunshine—this is what balances it. Of course, winter averages were much cooler back in the 19th century, particularly the severe winters of 1836 & 1900. II. Contrarywise to your climate, snow has fallen about five times since 1893 in summer up here, most recently on 5th December 2013; www.blackheathweather.com/pastfalls.html
