Here's a thread about months that are warmer than months that are supposed to be warmer. For example 2003 saw March being warmer than April in Umeå. That's definitely not a common phenomenon. November-March tend to do their own thing quite often but not March-April.

Interesting thread. 2017 was an example here where March 2017 was warmer than the February, despite the fact that February had a 47.1C high, nearly 10C warmer than the March high! And the avg low in March was only 0.1C cooler. Top panel is Feb 2017, the bottom March 2017

Do only shoulder seasons count Babu ? It has to be interesting. January being warmer than December is hardly interesting, and neither is July cooler than August that interesting for the most part.

This one was quite good; Spain normally heavily accelerates in May but in 1987; Oviedo didn't, December being warmer than November was just a double strike:

Good point, but September is a bit like "July/August" in oceanic climates on that latitude Babu

Happened twice last year. Also that December ended up correcting to 124.4mm of rainfall.

April 2011 was warmer than May 2011, and September 2006 was warmer than August 2006.
For true madness you have to look at sun hours. Feb 08 sunnier than Aug 08 is the most extreme example.

February 2017 was warmer than March 2017. February 2018 was warmer than March 2018.
Both had more to do February being anomalously warm than March being cold.

December 2015 was warmer than November 2015, which itself was already very mild!

Just counting shoulder seasons since the differences between the other months are so small, it’s not an unusual occurrence
All occcurances since 2000:
•February 2018 warmer than March •February 2017 warmer than March •March 2012 warmer than April
Since 1872:
•January has been warmer than March 13 times •February has been warmer than March 10 times •March has been warmer than April 1 time (2012) •May has been warmer than June 1 time (1881) •October has been warmer than September 1 time (1963) •December has been warmer than November 1 time (1873)
Not sure what it is about March being so prone to being colder than winter months while it’s barely happened the rest of the year

1993: May mean 14.0C, June mean 12.0C 2007: November mean 1.4C, December mean 2.3C

In Ohio, February 2015 was colder than January by an insane amount. January average temperature 23.0F, February average temperature 14.3F! July 2014 was also colder than June there - in fact, it even broke the record low for the month of July on the 18th (and then tied it on the 25th!). June 70.1F, July 69.3F. August ended up being warmer than both, 70.4F average, but the warmest temperature of 2014 was actually 91F recorded on the 5th of September. This was the second consecutive year that the highest temperature of the year was recorded in September, 10 September 2013 having recorded 96F (and 95F the following day). For KC, well, you can find all the weird months you want in 2017 alone: Take your pick. Insanely warm February, well above the normal March average but March was warm too so March was still warmer. August 4F cooler than June when it's usually 4F warmer (average highs). August and September have the same average high. Bizarre precipitation. I could go on.

Trondheim airport Værnes
24-hr monthly mean in Celsius
Nov 2016: 0.5 Dec 2016: 1.9
Feb 2014: 4.3 Mar 2014: 3.6
Nov 2013: 2.6 Dec 2013: 2.9
Mar 2012: 3.8 Apr 2012: 3.2 - Apr colder than Mar, that's rare!
Feb 2006: -1.1 Mar 2006: -4.6 - March coldest month! (second coldest Mar in 70 years)
Nov 2006: 4.2 Dec 2006: 4.5 - unexpected after a mild Nov
Further back in time, some really crazy stuff has occured here. In 2002, April was almost 5c warmer than Oct!! In 1999, Nov (5.7c) was warmer than Oct (5.5). In 1984 and 1981, May (12c) was up to 1.2c warmer than June!! In 1992, Oct (1.4c - coldest ever) was colder than Jan (2c)!! In 1973, Jan (3.3c) was warmer than April (2.8c)!!
Sunhours: In 2016 in Trondheim, October was the 4th sunniest month with 196 sunhrs, 51 hrs more than Aug!
