I always think Eastbourne's sunshine stats should be taken with a pinch of salt, as the council apparently "massaged" the figures so they could claim "sunniest resort" title. They also apparently moved the sunshine recorder onto the top of a cliff so they could "squeeze out" every last bit of sunshine possible lol Eastbourne probably isn't even in the top 5 sunniest places in the UK. If Bognor or Chichester had data available, it would be sunnier. I think even Bournemouth would be sunnier than Eastbourne if the weather station was in the centre rather than out at the airport. Eastbourne is about 160 hours sunnier than Herstmonceaux, a few miles inland. Hurn Airport is about 5 miles from the coast, so I'd estimate Bournemouth centre and the coast to have over 1900 hours. Bournemouth is probably less sunny than Southsea, the hours tend to drop off the further west you go along the coast, with Weymouth being quite a bit less. The sunniest spots seem to be the eastern half of the Hampshire coast, the eastern coast of the IOW & the western part of the West Sussex coast.

From E to D+. Good sunshine hours and pleasant summers, but still too cool all year round!

B-, a fairly pleasant if somewhat uninteresting climate. Throughout most of the year it's like me, too cool

D+ — gains points for being sunny, but temps are shitty

B-. Love the summer dryness and wet, mild fall/winter, but loses tons of points for its shitty cool stormless spring/early summer.
