Mackay has absolutely perfect summers with very good thunderstorms, along with comfortable yet noticeably cooler winters with the occasional frost. Neither of these features are common in Honolulu and is thus very shitty in comparison. Although, interestingly Honolulu has seen some very wet months in its history (check sercc.com/nowdata.html).

Honolulu has FAR better precipitation but Mackey is much more interesting with cooler winters, higher record highs and lower record lows. Mackay wins slightly.

Mackay wins; I much prefer subtropical climates to tropical ones

Mackay is better in every sense of the word. Honolulu is a fucking awful climate. Tampico would have been a better comparison, they've had 0 C midday before! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampico#Climate

I've never understood why Mackay is so "cold". Mean annual temperature (22.4°C) is closer to the Gold Coast (900km to the south) than to Bowen (160km to the north). Mackay is also cooler than Gladstone 360km to the south.

Both excellent climates but I'll give the edge to Honolulu for having warmer winters.

I would of went with Honolulu before, but now my preferences are closer to Mackay. Honolulu bit too dry, while mackay gets at least a little rain in the cooler season.

Mackay's wet season is too wet, I'll take Honolulu.

Honolulu easily for the sunshine and dryness. One of the best climates in the entire world IMO.
