We would be pretty sick if we just notified the forum every couple of months that "hey we're moving to a new domain reg there now please"

How long would 2000 MB last us? 12-18 months, I figure? If just 3 people were willing to pay 5 dollars a month, it sounds like we could make it happen. I don't think it'd be an issue for me.
PayPal is probably the way to go.

If we've used say 10 % of 200 MB now and with the current traffic that's every nine days (we were pretty active from the start) then that would make it a 90 day-gap for every 200 MB, hence an extra 1800 MB would be manageable in 810 days with the current traffic, that means a bit over two years. If we get up to there though, we could easily delete all "old junk" at the time if we can't figure out a way to get ad revenue to cover for the bigger amounts.
I'll see what I'll be able to do in terms of donations. The best scenario if we can't get ads would be that 15 people donated a dollar per month, that everyone can afford. Hence we donate 12 dollars on the bounce and then make another payment at the end of that year. If we can get some ad revenue to cover for it, our donations may well need to be even lower (5-6 dollars per year for 10-15 users) or non-existent. We owe it to ourselves to find out about it all though.

Actually I boked up and read it wrong first time - we're at 12/200 MB now and not 12%, which means we're barely using a MB a day so we will be alright until about February as things stand. Though if we contributed less than 50 cents a month each then 2000 MB would keep us going for years without needing to open this place up - which I'm pretty certain we would need to do to get ad revenue.
It all depends on whether we want to stay as a private club like this with the same 40 or so members indefinitely or we want to open up to fresh blood and fresh ideas, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It may well depend on if new people join C-D. They can be our breeding ground It's good to hear obviously. I think we can extend that for a bit as well by deleting futile stuff. For example the technical threads, new member threads and so forth. May well extend us into March Maybe one day Ben we could start a podcast with forum members! Radio Boombo First dibs along with Beerman to be the guests for the opener lol!

I think it would be acceptable for everyone to donate a little as & when to keep the site going, I can't see many having a problem with that TBH...
Also would it help to make sure everyone uses a hosting site to upload photos?

If/when we run out of space and you don't want to spend money, we could move to a bplaced domain, there's this really good little-known forum software called ABXD that I could put on there. I think the project has been discontinued, but I have some connections to the people who were part of it. I'm sure I could find it somewhere - it may even be on my old computer. Hopefully this scenario is quite a bit into the future though!

I didn't think that if you linked a video or picture, from another site, that it used up any memory? Of course, it makes no sense to allow attachments, though.
I don't know how PayPal is with the credit card processing fees, and whether they're passed on to the payee or not. If so, it might make more sense if, instead of everyone donating one dollar per month, we donate 12 for a whole year.

Taking good into account the exchange rates? We don't want the Aussies short-changing us!

31 members online in the last 24 hours. I think this forum is in a healthy place at the moment! I think the only imminent challenge is to increase traffic in the actual weather threads

Seeming as this is a weather forum and so by definition we're all geeks I thought you'd be interested in the site stats for September We haven't quite matched the whirl of activity of that crazy first weekend, but with all the new members we've had in the past week the numbers all look promising I think we could get another ten new people from the invite list to bring us to 60 members, but after that we would pretty much have exhausted our potential supply of C-D people. But yes, we need more weather talk going on around here so people have no need to post on C-D! Why else do you think I set up the September weather summary thread before the month was actually over lol?

Most of the activity during that first weekend was Lommmie, he made like 300 posts in two days

It certainly gave the impression of a more active place than it was, which certainly lent the place credence

I saw jg made a post about this, which is good, because I see people uploading attachments. But if people want to do that, is there an easy way to manually delete them from the server after a certain amount of time, to free up space? In other words, you can post attachments, but with the understanding that they will be deleted after x number of days.

As far as I'm aware anybody can delete their old posts/attachments at any time, though I'm not sure about attachments because I don't think I've ever uploaded one.
It's much better to hotlink though, that way it appears in the post and you don't have to specifically click on it to look at it.
