Alta is one of the warmest climates of a continental type north of the arctic circle, probably around 1,200-1,300 hours of sunshine, judging from topography, Tromsø and Kiruna. Gough Island on the other hand at 40°S in the Tristan da Cunha wider archipelago chain is one rather extreme maritime climate that sometimes make the foggy coastline Humboldt County in Northern California seem continental. While lush and green, it hardly ever gets warm. At the same time, you won't freeze much either, and the rain is never that cold. What you do get though are downpours and monstrous gales! I've no idea which climate is going to win this; both offer rather extreme conditions light-wise and maritime rainfall-wise, but for me Gough Island's extra sunshine, higher sun angle and acceptable winter temperatures narrowly wins it in a virtual E- tie. The main reason Alta loses out is the extremely slow spring warmup and the dreadfully fast autumn drop-down. Tromsø is better in that regard. Keep in mind though that I really don't like either here and they're mostly interesting with regards to latitude and geographical position

Well Steelernation , we'll see whether Whöler prefers gales and stronger UV over a cold desert, no UV with polar nights

Alta!Gough Island is far too fucken mild Pretty close to Hasvik too. Alta is a really good climate for where it is. The worst thing about it is the length of winter but that's to be expected at that latitude anyway. Seriously though, Gough Island is shit. There are worse climates though.

Seriously though, Gough Island is shit. There are worse climates though. Alta does indeed do quite well by maritime standards, yes. The likes of Hasvik, Honningsvåg or Vardø however receive far more precipitation and are much squallier, which makes those three climates about an A by maritme standards (A+ is South Georgia & Grytviken, Bouvet Island, Heard Island, South Orkney, South Shetland etc). Grytviken has a really interesting climate actually. Lots of months with potential to see very high temperatures (28,8C in March for example). 9 months with record highs at or above 17C. That's really impressive for its climate type. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grytviken#Climate

This is equivalent to a choice between execution by hanging or decapitation. I choose the latter, so Gough Island here I come.

Alta wins only on a technicality, as it is the only one to have reached 90'F on record. Both fucking suck, and Gough Island is pathetic for the latitude.

Alta because at least it's snowy and has a chance of heat

Alta. Continental, more variable and seasonable.

Gough.. but this is a choice between two evils. Gough is a slimy diarrhoea whilst Alta is an explosive mud bath often seen the morning after drinking and eating spicy food.

Dunno, they seem equally horrible. I would have to spend some time in either climate to make a well-founded decision as both are too unfamiliar.

Gough Island for sure. While it could use warmer summers and the rain is a tad too persistent. I love how wet it is.

I'll post screenshots for climate boxes myself, as Schlommo, who acted like a needy GF taking down the original screenshots.
