Similar latitude, both oceanic, but a whole lot different. What in my opinion is the best climate of the Netherlands and the Benelux in general goes up against the climate that was voted Britain's best on here last autumn. As for how strong extremes get, I don't know if that Southsea station's extremes could be found somewhere but aside from that I think it's fair to say it likely ranges between light frosts and 35-36°C in the station's history based on the geography. I'll go with Maastricht. Although gloomier, it's got a much greater chance of a heatwave, winters in Portsmouth are too chilly to be comfortable anyway, and not only that, Maastricht most definitely gets a good dose of snow quite often during winter. For thunderstorm lovers it's important to note that Maastricht is located in the angle of Netherlands (Limburg) dropping down between Belgium and Germany, so I'd assume there can be quite a bit of thunder in summertime. Portsmouth on the other hand sees more sun and a milder climate in general.

Portsmouth, for the extra sun. Maastricht is basically just London with colder winters.

Maastricht for the colder winter nights, higher precipitation and lower sunshine hours.

Portsmouth for the milder winters & more sunshine. It can get hot in Portsmouth too, the record high is 35C & record low is -8C. Portsmouth does quite well for thunderstorms too, often importing those from the nearby continent...

Is there any way Malta man can supply monthly records either to me or directly to the Wikipedia article?

Portsmouth easily.
Maastrict is a cooler, cloudier version of London.

Maastricht has better temps, Portsmouth has better precipitation. Pretty close. I guess Maastricht is slightly better.

Let's just call this one of those epic "swing states" of climate battling!

Maastricht all the way! Being close to the Channel or North Sea is a curse for heat lovers ime, at least in the first half of the warm season. Maastricht's cold season is clearly superior as well imho.

I may go through it one day & do the monthly records...

Maastricht, fucken! Not even a bloody competition. Much more exciting than one of Britain's worst climates Had this match been against Alston, Braemar, Dalwhinnie or Wanlockhead, then it would've been quite different

Doesn't Maastricht have a better climate than most of Scotland though knot? Snow chance in winter, thunderstorms in summer and handsome diurnals?

Since Europe has plentiful splendid maritime climates; a lot more than it does inland—maritime standards are more prominent for Europe. Henceforth, maritime standards are of the uttermost prominence at this point. Lommaren
