It's a sort of charity. Low-level clubs get ticket money, some TV/streaming money and media attention. And the amateur players an experience they'll never forget. German top flight clubs have done these kind of pre-season friendlies for decades.
BTW, Barcelona did this to HJK too in 2014. HJK needed extra money to built a indoors pitch for their junior teams, and Barcelona agreed to play HJK in a pre-season friendly if the sold-out Olympic Stadium ticket sales goes to building the indoors hall. It was built and there's a plaque at the entrance saying "this was made possible by FC Barcelona". Messi didn't play, but Barcelona won 6-0.

I mean being try hards and putting 27 goals past them, not the first time they've done this to a team in pre-season either. At least ease up after the first 10 lol

yeah, good decision for him. i think 100 million euros was a too hefty price tag, though. he's 30. so he'll have 3 good years in him at most.

Must have really wanted their man, Daniel Levy isn't known for giving players away cheaply. It think it's still value for money given his proven track record. There's much worse players being bought for similar prices in this current market.

Not the easiest draw for HJK. I don't have very high hopes:
Positive thing is that HJK has never met any of those clubs before. PAOK is the first Greek opponent HJK will ever meet, and Aberdeen will be the first ever Scottish opposition that isn't Celtic.

crvena zvezda (never heard of them)
Lol what? 34-time Serbian/Yugoslav champion, European Cup winner 1991. In the last 6 seasons they have been 3 times in the Champions League group stage and 3 times in the Europa League group stage. One of the all-time most successful football clubs from the Balkans.

Manchester United have been a scandal magnet this season. Seems like a good thing I started supporting Tottenham instead

Classic kits being worn by England and Scotland for tonight's game. Marking the 150th anniversary of their first encounter - the first ever international football fixture.
