So, the original thread has posts missing as pages move forward for some strange reason as Strewthless also has pointed out previously, so I think it's about time a new one's started and the other malfunctioning thread locked. France-Argentina 1-1 at the break, shaping up to be a potential classic after that equaliser. One major team is going out within an hour or two, but certainly not without a fight.

Finnish international Teemu Pukki (former Schalke, Celtic) moves to Norwich City on a free transfer from Danish Bröndby. Quite a surprising move. Greek runner-ups PAOK has been in the rumours before, and would've seem more fitting his playing style. But the Championship is definitely a better league.

Norwich is a nice club, hope they're coming back soon! They pay well there nowadays too, Norwich still have some parachute payments in and the TV money is increasing so I assume he'll earn quite well. In other news, that French right back that I've never paid attention to what a shot

My prediction for the next 7 games in the round of 16 winners: Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Brazil, Belgium, Sweden, and England

The salary is definitely better (and it's actually always paid unlike in Greece), but I'm surprised and also glad that he still has the ambition to maybe play in the Premier League if everything goes well.
Pavard is a regular starter for Stuttgart, but in all honestly he has been under the radar for me too.

Another bonus avoiding PAOK is that your club president doesn't invade the pitch with a gun Ariete...

This was an amazing match, full of box to box action and lots of goals! Mbappe looks special, could see him reach Ronaldo/Messi territory in the future

True. Lommaren you asked me what Finnish players would fit the Sweden-Finland XI, and I would say three:
GK: Lukas Hradecky (Leverkusen). Voted the best GK in the Bundesliga last season by fans. Moved from Frankfurt to Leverkusen this summer.
CB: Niklas Moisander (Werder Bremen). Plays 90 minutes always when fit, and gotten a lot of praise. Has retired from international football, but we assume he woudn't in this case.
AMC: Roman Eremenko (no club). We assume that he wouldn't got caught for cocaine and gotten the doping ban. Is due to return this October. Voted the best player in the Russian League before the ban.
Other players who are likely not in the starting XI, but probably featured as substitutes:
CF: Teemu Pukki (Norwich City). 20 and 17 league goals for Bröndby the two last seasons must be enough for a consideration for Toivonen and Berg. CM, LW, RW, AMC: Robin Lod (Panathinaikos). Two excellent seasons for Panathinaikos, and probably a consideration as he can play in many positions. 120 games for HJK, 105 games for PAO, and he is still only 25. To move to a bigger club this summer. DMC, CM, LM: Perparim Hetemaj (Chievo Verona). Captain of the team and 240 Serie A appearances. Has retired from international football, but probably would play if he could feature in the World Cup. Could even be a possibility for the starting XI
Players which would not be in the squad for the World Cup, but could be on-off in the National Team:
DMC, CM: Alexander Ring (New York City FC): Suffered from many injuries, but has gotten a lot of praise in the US. Formerly experience from the 1. and 2. Bundesligas CF: Joel Pohjanpalo (Leverkusen): Totally sidelined in his club, but has scored 7 Bundesliga goals in less than 300 minutes played. Was the top young scorer in the 2. Bundesliga during the 2014-2015 season. Needs to move NOW almost anywhere for playing time, but still only 23. DMC: Tim Sparv (Midtjylland): The Danish Champions', and Finland's captain, very experienced midfielder with history in the Eredivisie and 2. Bundesliga. Excellent team player on and off the pitch. Speaks Swedish better than Finnish.
Players with potential:
AMC, AMR, AML: Fredrik Jensen (FC Augsburg): Excellent season in Twente and moves tomorrow to the Bundesliga for a €3 million fee. Would be in the U21 right now, but certainly worth considering next season.
DC, DMC: Thomas Lam (Nottingham): Played on loan at Twente last season and did very well there. Was considered a big talent but hasn't really broke trough. Still only 24 and the potential is there. 17 caps for Finland. GK: Jesse Joronen (FC Copenhagen): Bought from Horsens as the replacement for Robin Olsen. Didn't quite break trough in Fulham, but is now up and coming.
DC: Sauli Väisänen (SPAL): Moved from AIK to Serie A last season, started really well, then fell on the sidelines. Maybe in a couple years, depending where he will play.
CM, DMC, LM: Mostagh Yaghoubi (HJK): HJK playmaker with the attitude of Zlatan and play style like Pogba. Extreme potential, but has suffered from bad club choices (until now) and his difficult personality. Undoubtedly the best player in the Finnish league. His age (23) speaks in his favour. His future might be everything between Allsvenskan and Serie A.
AMR: Mikael Soisalo (Zulte-Waregem): Moved from Middlesbrough U23's to the Belgian league just days ago. Would be in the U21 right now, but if everything goes well in Belgium he could be considered, as the right midfield is Sweden's weakness. One of the best wingers I've seen in the Finnish league ever, and he did 7 goals and 6 assists during his only league season when he was 18.
Some others like Jere Uronen and Kasper Hämäläinen could've won some caps for the Sweden-Finland team but are not realistic ATM.

Given Ola Toivonen could've chosen to play for Finland due to ancestry, how influential do you believe he would have been all these years had he opted for that instead Ariete ? Hradecký doesn't really come across as Finnish at a first glance obviously so didn't even consider him, of course I don't really follow Bundesliga either, but I assume he must be really good. Still I think Robin Olsen is phenomenal in the national team, something he hasn't replicated at club level. It's a bit strange. I'd like to see Olsen take the leap into a lower-tier Premier League club because I think he could be crucial for those. That being said, him being half-Danish and grown up in Scania I think he's rather comfy where he's at. Hopefully he'll finish his career in Malmö though. He was marvellous back in the 2014 qualifying run. What are the Swedish-language statuses of the other Swedish-sounding names? All have it as mother-tongue? Moisander, Ring, Jensen...

Of course he would've been a regular, but I haven't thought much about it as Toivonen said very early he wants to play for Sweden.
Moisander is Finnish-speaking only, Ring is Finnish-speaking but spent most of his youth in Germany, Jensen is Swedish-speaking.

It won't be England, lol. I really hope they might get somewhere but I can just see them crashing out on penalties tomorrow.

Sweden aren't as much of an underdog as people think. In the early years of the tournament they were quite dominant, and finished 3rd as recently as 1994. I guess like a slightly worse European Uruguay
Switzerland are like Mexico, always getting knocked out in the Round of 16 lol. In the early years they would get knocked out at the Quarter Finals instead
Croatia somehow finished 3rd in 1998! Aside from that they never made it past the group stage in their history
Russia used to be decent as the USSR, finished 4th in 1966. Have been absolute shit since 1970 however. First time making the Quarter Finals since 1970!!!
Colombia was pretty shit for most of its history, last year when they made the Quarter Finals it was their best performance ever
