Two of Western Canada's three dominant cities. Very different climates. For me it's Vancouver by far. Summers aren't too bad there, whereas winters, albeit cool and damp at least won't go below -40ยฐC, nor 0ยฐF for that matter. Edmonton on the other hand has such nasty cold shocks and January is just as bad as Northern Sweden. Summers are also relatively even, due to Vancouver's higher lows. Not to mention that even though Edmonton is sunnier, Vancouver is still comparable to Portsmouth, let alone being sunnier than similar climates in England that are much cloudier. C+ vs D

Vancouver easily. Edmonton is one of the worst things, a cold winter climate with a weak crummer.

Vancouver for obvious reasons.

Edmonton by far. Good sunshine levels, way more interesting summers with awesome thunderstorms (even if the temperatures leave a lot to be desired), and a much better precipitation pattern.
The winters are a bit on the cold side for me but still preferable to the endless cold rain and gloom of Vancouver.

Honestly, I think Vancouver. Edmonton is just too freaking freezing for half the year with the compensation being an extremely lame crummer.

Edmonton by far.
Just take a look at that November in Vancouver. Thatโs enough to make me take almost any other climate and then thereโs 5 other equally miserable months.

I'd take November in Vancouver over January in Edmonton. Freezing cold desert

Edmonton by far. Just take a look at that November in Vancouver. Thatโs enough to make me take almost any other climate and then thereโs 5 other equally miserable months. and that's at YVR which is one of the drier stations in the area. Where I am averages close to double that amount.

Edmonton. Winter is cold but it's dry with consistent snow cover instead of cold drizzle for half the year. Edmonton is an A- where Vancouver is a C+.

As a cyclist perhaps this might help Lommaren imagine what it's like there: Winter Cycling ยซ Breaking Chains and Taking Lanesparticularly this post Itโs So Cold Thatโฆ ยซ Breaking Chains and Taking LanesIt does seem interesting to experience but I'd rather pass. Photo reminds me...When I walked to class in the winter during college, I'd rush out the door without bothering to dry my hair. Sometime while walking, I'd notice my hair felt hard and stuff. Took me a while to realize it was frozen solid. Was nowhere near as cold as that link (only low to mid teens ยฐF maybe single digits). Old chart I made of Edmonton January temperatures

She's evidently a bit crazy, but as far as town riding goes, I can do that down towards -15ยฐC...

Definitely Edmonton. I may have said Vancouver 20 years ago but winters here seldom make an appearance anymore.
