As I've said, the pondweed had spread further than normal, as you'd expect in those conditions. It's not sensationalist to report on the direct effects of what has the potential to be the warmest summer ever recorded across the UK.

Not unusual at all, many ponds/waterways are clogged with the stuff. That & other aquatic plants such as Canadian pond weed are classed as invasive & it is illegal to "release" it into the wild. So it is just sensationalist reporting then. Taking a picture of a pond in normal summer conditions, and implying it's unusual, does reek a bit of global warming hysteria. I guess it depends where that photo is from, but ponds/waterways in the south at least can be completely covered in it. Blooms of toxic algae, killing wildlife, would be more of an indicator to it being due to the heatwave.

Thunderstorms have caused havoc in York today. Roads flooded everywhere, and all trains cancelled from York station due to lightning striking the signal centre. York train station is one of the country's major train stations, so the knock on affect will be felt everywhere I'd imagine.
26C and sunny now, but more storms forecast later. The best day of weather in years.

And Tulludden is on the mainland, so it's more interesting than for example Kotka Aspö, which is as the name says, an island.

I guess Storön is the most impressive here for being (unlike the name would suggest) on the mainland at nearly 66°N. What's more impressive than the lows though is its dewpoints! 5 days in a row averaged dewpoints above 20'C! Probably reached a 23'C DP considering one hourly reading had 22.9'C.
