My prediction for the grand final is Richmond vs Collingwood, if that turns out true it would be fucking mental; two massive victorian teams going at it infront of 100k+ at the MCG. You'd be hard pressed to not see Richmond making the grand final. I think the teams that could make the grand final are Colling wood as previously mentioned, GWS, Hawthorn and West Coast.

I'll just see how things play out, we are playing west coast in perth most likely so that'll be tough.

Predictions for week 1 of the finals:
Qualifying Final 1 Richmond (1st) vs Hawthorn (4th): A difficult game to predict, a thursday night game at the MCG with pressure on both teams to perform at their best in front of possibly 85,000+ fans. Hawthorn have had a good streak recently but Richmond are undefeated at the MCG in their last 20 appearances. I want to predict the upset from Hawthorn most likely coming from a 2nd half comeback thanks to the genius mind of Alistair Clarkson and his team of choaches; yet Richmond with their high pressure gamestyle and defensive structure locked down make it difficult to go for the underdog. Richmond by 10 points.
Elimination Final 1 Melbourne (5th) vs Geelong (8th): For the first time since 2006 Melbourne have secured a finals placing, they look exciting, explosive with a great forward line and experience in the middle of the ground from the likes of Gawn, Jones and Tyson. They come against the perennial winners Geelong, with coach Chris Scott needing a strong performance in the finals series after a few disappointing years in september. Geelong's midfield have been questioned, "do they have too many midfielders?" "how are they going to spend money on a forwardline?", Geelong have answered this with Gary Ablett, Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood having solid seasons and aging forward Tom Hawkins having an excellent year with 58 goals to silence the critics. Both teams have had issues over inconsistent form but both have high points for/points against percentage of 131.4% (Melbourne) and 131.6% (Geelong) as they are both very good at dispatching lower placed teams. Melbourne by 22 points.
Elimination Final 2 Sydney (6th) vs Greater Western Sydney (7th): The "battle of the bridge" is set up to be another classic, these two teams fighting to stay in the hunt for the premiership; but first they must fight it out at the SCG on a saturday afternoon. Sydney have the likes of Lance Franklin, possibly the greatest forward of our generation and the young hopes of Papely, Cunningham, Heeney and Florent. Although the major downside to Sydney is the lack of form in their reliable players of Hannebery, Josh P. Kennedy (who has been good but not outstanding as usual) and the lack of an excellent ruckman. They'll go up against the "ubermensch" of the Greater Western Sydney Giants who have a near perfect midfield (Congilio, Whitfield), strengthened forwardline (Cameron, Green, Patton, Shiel, Himmelberg) and stable backline, the only problem for the giants this season (to explain their fairly unexpected ladder position) is their weakeness in big games, which may prove vital to their downfall or success this year. GWS by 25 points.
Qualifying Final 2 West Coast Eagles (2nd) vs Collingwood (3rd): These two teams have defied pre-season predictions of mediocrity to far surpass even their most possionate supporter's wishes. West Coast have had a miraculous rise in all of the 2nd tier players who have risen from decent to great, the likes of Schofield, Sheppard, Darling, Masten, Sheed excelling their previous best seasons. West Coast do have this strange sense of solidarity, with no real weaknesses say a serious lack of ruckman as Naitanui has an ACL injury; Vardy is decent but Lycett is inconsistent and can't back up Vardy against the great ruckman of Collingwood (Grundy). Collingwood, coached by Nathan Buckley, were predicted to sit in the 13th-16th range and Buckley to be sacked at the end of this year...yet here we are in early september with Collingwood going leaps and bounds over expectations. Collingwood have always had the talent but have never excecuted well, this season even with a huge injury list of some of their best players, the magpies have played very well dispatching many teams. Alas they have had a poor streak against top 8 teams only winning 1 this season. All of their forwardline players are at least good and many are great, with Stephenson kicking ~35 goals in his first season (he's 19 years old and rising star of 2018) while Mason Cox, the AFL's best american player, continues to improve. Collingwood should get vital players in the form of Will Hoskin Elliott, Darcy Moore, Adam Treloar and Jeremy Howe back for the final against West Coast for the saturday night game. Very difficult to decide who will win. Collingwood by 1 point.
I'm basically using this as an excuse to improve my writing. It is just a draft of course.

Some good analysis there, you've got the first two correct as well
Melbourne totally outplayed geelong in every facet except the scoreboard. If they play the same way against hawthorn and execute their goal kicking, we could see them go deep into september.

Optus Stadium itself looks nice but the actual ground itself is like an ice rink, fix that up will you
Didn't rain in perth or anything today so not sure what's going on there. Both sides slipped over a lot but of course we slipped much more

Did drizzle a little bit you could see it on the cameras at the game. But basically no rain. Good game though, watched it with a few eagles supporting mates who got drunker and more excited as the game went on.
