I guess it's time for Stockholm. These are from one week ago. A couple of weeks from peak by the look of it, especially considering the weather has been very warm since then, but a lot of trees still had beautiful foliage, some of which were the most vibrant I've ever seen.ย For example, the main street where GF's dad lives was lined with red oaks, most of which were peaking and extremely vibrant. He lives at one of the end stations of the metro, and I don't know if it's because of less UHI or more nature or both, but there were noticeably more beautiful colors there. Said metro station. This street was very beautiful in terms of fall colors. Then we went to the center and found, among other things, a church. Ignore the finger in the corner...ย I kinda went about taking the same kind of pictures as I would during the trip on the continent. I do like the Stockholm style of architecture a lot. Then of course, you have the oldtown as well. There are a lot of extremely narrow alleys there too. No traffic lights though. Compared to the other cities we went to, the streets in Stockholm's oldtown have much taller buildings compared to the width of the streets. The Manhattan effect is larger in that sense (although obviously still not at all similar to Manhattan) compared to say Prague. This is very Parisian. I guess it has to do with Sweden sucking off France for centuries. Extremely crowded there on Drottninggatan were last year a guy drove a truck and killed a bunch of people. If it was this crowded then, I guess we were lucky to only have 5 casualties if I'm allowed to say that... Further along the street, you get to more modernized "Scandinavian" architecture. Come to think about it, this image confuses me because Stockholm doesn't have any trams except on one little island that's basically nothing but an amusement park, a zoo, and extremely rich people. All cities do this to some extent, but Stockholm does it WAY more than any other place we went to. What am I talking about? Ruining beautiful views with construction and infrastructure. I think Stockholm does have some views that are hard to beat, but they also have way more construction and ugly infrastructure than those places too. Very frustrating. Look at this. Very comparable to the Danube in Prague, but my god, what's up with all the fucking obstructing infrastructure and construction? This image is taken a few meters away, and although you can't really see it on this resized images, there are at least 6 cranes in it. This is the most popular square. Look at the construction! This is the best landscape of forest to show the current level of foliage that I could manage to get. There were some good views but as we were walking about with GF's dad I had to comply with where they wanted to go, so I couldn't just run off and take pictures from viewpoints. As you can see in the distance there, about 1/4 to 1/3 of the trees showed sign of fall at the time.

^^^^ Stunning colours in Sweden. Very warm would be a relative term? - those people still look like they're dressed for cold. Of course it's relative, but at the time of these pics, there were still residues of the cold snap that brought the earliest snowfall in decades to Umeรฅ. 11/8 and 10/5 the days we were there, so a couple degrees below average. However, since we left, Stockholm has averaged about 16/10 which is obviously far above average for mid October.

From Tuesday the 9th, 2 cells from a trough came through and hit the northern suburbs. Took a pic at uni at around 1pm while the weather was still good This is later when i was going back home, watched the clouds you can see in the top right form into a cell and drop 30-60mm in the far southern suburbs.

I've just returned from a week in Grenoble, I went in there for work again so I didn't have much time for sightseeing. Anyway, here there are a couple of pictures from around the city (mostly the city center area). ^ this is taken in Tuesday at sunset. Few minutes later there was a rainbow too, but I didn't manage to take a picture of it. The rest of the pictures are from Friday instead ^ basically this is Grenoble postcard, with the Isรจre river, the mountains in the background and the tรฉlรฉphรฉrique ^ parc de ville ^ same park, but looking toward the Bastille. At least up on the mountain some trees seem to start to change color. ^ the mountains around Grenoble have very characteristic shapes, this is the view from the train station The building style varies quite a lot. Some are nearly the same as Turin, some others are much more stereo-typically French while the most colourful ones could also pass for somewhere in Cรดte d'Azur or Liguria. Ah ah, some foliage! Here there are a couple of picture from the train, between Grenoble and Chambรฉry This is my place yesterday instead: ^ the snow line start to lower ^ some tree above 1000 m of altitude seems to start to change color, but on the french side that was much more evident.

Foliage perhaps not as good as last two years. All photos straight from camera.

I really like this photo. I think it's the combination of hills, colors, and water. Oct 14th, very cloudy but warm dry breeze from S

Beanbags, the uni puts them out on the hill on sunny days. So fucking nice to lie on one in between classes.

Dust haze from tonight. There was a storm that went directly overhead when these were taken, the water cascading off the roof during the downpour was more mud than water! There was loud booming thunder, but did not see any lightning, all hidden by the dust. Temp 27C, was about 6:30pm

When we got back to Umeรฅ on the 8th, slightly more trees were fully green compared to fully bare, so using that as the definition, we arrived in the first half of the foliage peak, but that tipped over just a few days later. First day: These are from a couple days in. Cool clouds Looks like September 10 meters away it looks like late October Very unimpressive church compared to churches in other countries... More foliage pics. A couple of asian kids (not sure if tourists or not) kept taking selfies with and without timer with the foliage, and even though I waited like 10 minutes for them to leave so I could take pics of my own they wouldn't. More fall colors elsewhere. Too bad the lighting was shitty. Would've looked great with some sunlight. Foliage! This place looked remarkably green even a few days in (I say that because the foliage has progressed extremely quickly which I'll show later) BABA'S TREES Our beech was still fully green. Oh, and I found a few linden saplings too right next to my apartment. Haven't seen those before in the wild here. Only "noble" tree species I haven't found yet in the wild are beech, horse chestnut, hornbeam and cherry. Maybe some of those will be able to produce offspring after this warm summer? This looks so cold lol. Don't know if it was the same morning but there was a lot of frost at the area where I work. Went to my friend in the western part by the river. Very lovely area. He's just got a new puppy so our dogs met and got to walk along the river. That day was absolutely crazy. The whole day had been blue dome skied, then around 3pm, in a matter of I kid you not, LITERALLY 5 minutes, the sky went from being completely blue and sunny, to 100% overcast and fog heavy enough to stain my glasses with droplets. We saw an eagle! Very cool. Haven't seen one I believe since I was in kindergarten. Birches! Bet you guys have all been missing some birch images. Then it was as if every tree lost its leaves in one night. Suddenly half the trees were bare. October 9th vs October 15th Went to Tavelsjรถ on Sunday. Almost all trees were bare. Warm day though. Almost 19'C. T-shirt weather in mid-October? Damn. And we got some pathetically weak northern lights.

Went with my friend and the puppy to the rapids and arboretum today. Still some fall colors left, but a lot of trees are bare now, especially further inland from the city in this river valley. Never seen the water level this low before! Never seen it walkable before. Even this beech tree is struggling to keep its leaves. Strange how they haven't stayed on as brown leaves. Don't they usually do that? Then the sun started to set. Way too soon. This is not even half past five. I've seen more spectacular sunsets. I've under-estimated larch trees before. I quite like them. Very cool. Goodnight.

some London photos from last week. Warehouses from outside the train window near Clapham Junction: doing the tourist thing and going on the London Eye; nice clear sky for it from a Thames River boat ride looks like North American less so here fancy looking H&M Quiet side block in Marylebone busy architecture looks a bit Hausmannian narrow city streets are cozy and pleasant for walking, nice escape from the rumble of the city without feeling dead fancy bicycle shop not sure what this is even though it clouded over, got some sun peeking through rainbow in Croyden that day just before sunset and sunset

Went with my friend and the puppy to the rapids and arboretum today. really nice set of photos; good foliage colors there, more colorful than I assumed though obviously past peak in the last set. Like the one with the lake and then the last three the best.

Like the one with the lake and then the last three the best. Thanks. Definitely one of the best foliage years in Umeรฅ. Dry and sunny fall helped a lot. Maybe the very sharp cold snap helped too, sending all trees into fall mode at the same time or something. Often, especially last year's incredibly anemic fall, all the trees have their leaves get all decomposed, so while it looks kinda yellow, all the leaves are like 30% brown.
