They're both good climates in many ways. The main advantage for Downieville which seals its win is that there's more snowfall in a year than even here. Even though it doesn't stick around that's quite a bonus during cool winters. The fewer thunderstorms there is another bonus. Winters make it lush around there anyway. Asheville is as good as it gets in the US south, but I'm not a fan of that summer humidity. Downieville most definitely receives more sunshine as well.

yeah I'll have to give a slight edge to Downieville thanks to the great snowfall. My uncle used to live there and said it was "very snowy". Asheville seems a bit boring and the winters are pretty lame there. For once I prefer the climate with drier summers!  |

Asheville for the more even precipitation. Downieville is too dry in summer and too wet in winter. Asheville's summers aren't much hotter than here, I didn't know it was at elevation.

Downieville is better in almost every way...except that winter precipitation is really really disgusting.
I gotta give the slight edge to Asheville, I just canโt deal with so many cold rainy washouts in Downieville.

Much better precipitation pattern, and actually sort of reasonable summer low temperatures as opposed to the polar crap of Downieville.
